Why don't you try at least one more benchmark before you declare victory. Like the blender benchmark. Fir said he did it in 18 minutes long version. I did the short version in 5:42, I am downloading it now. Mine was windows, Not sure on his.

Windows 10 LTSB, several runs averaging around 21 minutes each with average CPU core at 3.785GHz. I had a major lockup at 4100 with manual settings, rebooted and it showed my CPU voltage at 1.74V! Yikes!

Going to slow things down a bit, good thing I had dual fans blowing across the motherboard and a solid liquid system or something may have gotten toasted!

I may install Ubuntu on another disk and run Blender since it prefers nix.

I would urge caution to 2990WX users on current X399 systems trying to "shoot the moon". The TDP on this CPU is scary high when you increase target limits for power and if you don't monitor your VRMs carefully you may crash and burn!

Edit My IPC is almost the same as his, and I am at 4 ghz instead of 3.9, so I should be closer to his score or beat it. The only thing slowing me down is the 40% usage of the threads. Or do I turn off SMT ?

I don't think he got more than the 40% or so that you did. Ryzen only supports 128 bit avx*, haswell does 256 bit. Handbrake makes decent use of avx 256. I'd guess a Ryzen core for core would need approximately a 20 - 25% clock advantage to match Haswell.

*technically Ryzen supports 256 bit but it does so by combining two 128 bit units, so it doesn't get the speedup that Haswell does.

Haswell is around 22% ahead Ryzen in IPC, when it comes to X265 (due to AVX2).

I was having tons of crashes and blue screens back when I first ran handbrake.
I still have start up problems occasionally.

just for giggles i ran this on my Quad Opteron (48 x K10 cores on SuperMicro H8Q-GiF motherboard)... says its using: MMX2 SSE2Fast LZCNT

9.39 fps... (just under 200 seconds).

it uses all 48 cores but the cpu load is bouncing all over the place between 30-80%.

CPU cores were running at 3.0 GHz. OS is Windows 2008R2 Server (not sure if it makes a difference)

PS: the times seem to vary per run... sometimes in the 9.2 range and sometimes all the way up at 9.8 fps.
