the XFX hd 7970 double fan cooler is the first non-reference 7970 we have so lets review it shall we?
review
the thing at 50% fan speed was manage-ably quiet and fell a record TWENTY DEGREE"S vs anything the stock 7970 or a GTX 580 has to offer.
as for overclocking its solid but once we get some support all up in this on things like afterburner or trixx expect increases in performance well over 10%
the XFX DD 7970 is a machine built for overclocking. it runs quiet and cool at stock and consumes zippo power. performance is solid and there aint no denying it. if nvidia ever had a chance of out cooling or power consuming tahiti, it definitively just went out the window.

Meh, Beta's are were it's at

@KitGuru, is that 1.275mv for 1200 and it artifacts?

Does anyone know the stock vid? It doesn't seem like it takes to voltage very kindly - or it could just be a bad chip, or average, who knows :hmm:

from what i can tell thats the average result on gets before volt increase.. highest gpureview has is 1220 core 6500 mem. this being said sapphire is arming a pre oc'd one at 1.3ghz core 5500mem which probably fair better

The water cooled ones?

We'll see how that goes, it will be interesting to see if they really do respond that well to cooler operating temps.

what is considered too hot for these 28nm parts? I've always seen 90C as being the cutoff for 40nm, but surely 28nm parts are going to be lower. Is something like 80c more along the lines of the max we'd ever want to hit under regular usage?

That allegedly leaked Sapphire shot had two cards at 1335MHz, though, only one of which had the designation "WC", probably for water cooling. Surely the other one should be on air at 1335?

I thought they were both WC'ed, just one was a closed loop system.... I may be 100% wrong though :whiste:

It's still nearly a 30% OC. So If that's a bad chip, then it's a problem I would like to have.
