Hello all,

I am itching to pick up a game but Id like to pick up a couple which are reasonably fun to play and have an in-built benchmark system.

Crysis and that latest UT title seem to be popular although I am not completely satisfied that I would enjoy them.

Would I be better off just looking at recent graphics card reviews and pick up one or two of the games off their list?

Im mainly an RTS/RPG gamer but obviously FPSes are the main heavy users of graphics cards so just a few ideas bounced around would be awesome!

Why do you need a game to be a benchmark? Why not just say...play the game and see if it runs as well as you want it to?

If you take a look at the thread here: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...y=y&keyword1=benchmark there should be some pretty helpful information for you with respect to benchmarking and whatnot. It's several months old now, but still valid in my opinion.

apoppin's posts can be tough to read sometimes (sorry poppin if you happen to be lurking around reading this) but he does typically have very useful and helpful information. Anyway, your OP made me think of that thread so I thought I'd point you there to begin with.

Cheers and good luck.

A common game allows me to compare my systems "real life" performance against anothers. Can be useful in a multitude of problem diagnosis investigations especially those relating to software and drivers. If theres a game commonly used for benchmarking and I like it, it will be of use to me both as a game and a utility.

Thanks KeithTalent, I'll take a look and I know of apoppin's style :)

Crysis has a built-in benchmark but it should not be used as an indicator of game performance. The actual game runs a lot worse, especially during heavy fights.
