Excellent write-up Grooveriding; very well done! The results beg the question - is it the improvement in raw computing power or the platform? I'd be interested in seeing results at stock speeds on the 3930K, if you ever have time.

Honestly I think the difference between this new setup and a Z68 running on an Asus Maximus IV would not be too large at all. I think the gains I have seen are from CPU power over platform. I actually think that would be interesting to do some stock speed runs with the 3930K, my guess is it will be slower than my i7 920 4.0 tests were. I'll do some of the benches at that speed as well with the 3930K.

Unfortunately I cannot verify the Z68/SB performance, my wallet is already not pleased with these upgrades, not to mention now having moved up to an even more expensive mobo.

My R4E was ordered today and I'm pretty sure I'll have it by Friday as I went express shipping this time. I'm going to redo these benches and the games I didn't do on the 3930K; Crysis, SC2, Arma 2 & BFBC2 when I get it in.

Fingers crossed this board does not give me the grief the UD5 is. Booting the UD5 system is a 30/70 chance in favour of getting 'corrupted BIOS checksum' and having to do a reflash and setup my BIOS again... Also I suddenly needed even more voltage to keep my OC stable at 4.4. I sure hope I am on the ball with the mobo being the problem. I checked my RAM and it was fine on all tests. The CPU is booting and I have never, ever had a defective CPU and I believe if I did have a bad CPU, I simply would not even be able to boot, period.

I hardly ever hear of people getting bad CPUs and the memory is passing tests so I am going with a turd motherboard as the problem.

The Rampage 4 Extreme is a very good board. I have it and the OC key is awesome for on the fly tweaks without any OS software. The board definitely rings true for the phrase "You pay for what you get". The only nitpick with the board is that it seems to boot slower than my old P45 chipset.

I haven't put my OC results in the other thread, but I'm running stable at 4.625 @ 1.35v (125x37). Tried to do 1.34v but failed around the 12th pass on LinX, but at 1.35v I was able to do a 20 pass with flying colours and some heavy sessions of BF3.
