I expect this to be an ongoing shit-show of protests and DeSantis then complaining about all things "woke" as a result. Great way for him to drum up the base leading to election day ...

I think the interesting part is Nebraska governor Ricketts wanting Sasse's seat once Sasse resigns. Ricketts is term limited. He is highly pushing Jim Pillen to replace him and in Nebraska it is almost a one-party system--so Pillen is a guaranteed win. Jim Pillen has said he would appoint the role of senator to Ricketts.

But it comes down to the day that Sasse resigns as senator. If Sasse resigns too soon, then Ricketts would be forced to appoint himself to US senator if he really wants that seat. Nothing stops that from happening, but sure would look like it is a move of greed.
