In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated
that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would
have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) - bacteria
found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop each year.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum,
whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification
process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Remember: Water = Poop, Beer/Wine = Health

Therefore, it's better to drink Beer/Wine and talk stupid, than to drink
water and be full of shit.

I doubt Ben ever said that as he lived 100 years before Pasteur and germ theory.

God's had soooo many drinks, he loves everyone. "Dude, you guys are awesome, I...*sniff* I love you all!"

good line
Except that if you're talking stupid, then all you're doing is spewing shit from your mouth. I'd prefer to be full of it, rather than that alternative.:)

I, for one, eschew water which has not been boiled and/or filtered.

Prep at home and take with as required. Otherwise, stick to said alcoholic beverages (likewise eschew sugar water and silly bottled water).

p.s. I've heard it said that in ye olde timey days o' yore, Europeans were commonly soused because alcohol was indeed most readily available and safe. Boiled water became more palatable with the introduction of tea.

He that drinks good ale, goes to bed mellow
He that drinks good ale, goes to bed mellow
Lives as he ought to do, lives as he ought to do, lives as he ought to do, and dies a happy fellow.

He who drinks small beer goes to bed sober
He who drinks small beer goes to bed sober
Falls as the leaves do, falls as the leaves do, falls as the leaves do, he'll rot before October.

There was a reason most people were drunk most of the time in yesteryear, it was safer than drinking the water.

Depends on where they lived. Maybe in highly populated cities, but people also drank because their lives sucked and they tried to drown their sorrows. Alcohol being cheap, they could afford it, but that usually ended up being all they would afford.

I hate people who spread crap like this. There's absolutely no reason to put Franklin's name there. Even when he lived in England working at a printing press (17th Century england was not a clean place), forfeited drinking beer like the other workers since it cost money. The poor saps would drown themselves in alcohol all day and be poor because they would spend all their money on booze. Anyone care to guess which is healthier, drinking nothing but alcohol or water with some bacteria in it?

Country folk prolly drank a lot of milk. Their water wouldn't be as polluted as that in cities either.

If it's just E. Coli, then it's no longer "poop."

QFT...I heard someone else refer to E. Coli as crap too.

He was a entrepreneur who recognized a need for a store where housewives could buy fabrics, toys, small appliances, and toys. WalMart pretty much destroyed him.

I think it's also worthwhile to remember that most alcoholic beverages of the day were weaker than what we consume now, even the heavier beers like the ales that are suggested in the song. Beer contains a large amount of carbohydrates among other things and is the proverbial liquified bread figuratively and literally (runoff or skims from the brewing process were sometimes used as the yeast for breads). It would not be uncommon to have a meal of a mead-porrige (though I doubt it was still in vogue with the lower classes after the Middle Ages). The fermentation and boiling of the brewing process helped to kill most harmful bacteria and the addition of hops in the Middle Ages helped give beer some preserving qualities. All of which helped give alcoholic drinks like meads, ciders, and wines a strong preference as opposed to water. Although I do recall that the colder climates, like in New England, had noticeably healthier water sources due to the cold reducing the bacteria in the water. Given a time in which disease would most likely kill you before you reached middle-age, I would not find it a stretch of the imagination that it was thought that drinking alcohol was healthier than water.
