while I haven't kept up with them...my escort X50 sniffs them out from miles away.

There are many reviews/tests out there. AFAIK, there are only a few players in the under $500 category.

Valid point but its a tough call betwen them ... Valantine one is more sensitive but does give more false-alarms as a direct result, no doubt that these are 1 & 2 though whichever you prefer.

depends. earlier detection > multiple threat detection.

Doesn't the Valentine also "track" multiple signals?
I mean the Escort radar bascially goes blip blip blip.
The Valentine One goes blip, shows how many signals it is detecting, and also shows the direction of the "strongest" signal.

Both are great radars, but for detection the X50 is the best so far.

Do these actually work? Are you safe from getting photo speed tickets? Are you safe to speed on the freeways and streets without any worry? I'm considering getting one when I get my own car. :)

I won't be driving unsafely (i.e. speeding in school zones or weaving through traffic), but this looks pretty cool.

Escort FTW!

I've had an Escort in my car for the past 3 years now...no tickets!

...okay...for some reason that just doesn't sound right...;)

That's a big o'le negative. The x50 will track using 8 separate vertical signal stregnth bars the stregnths of different threats around you. Without multiple threat detection, I'd imagine you'd be fuxxored when you mute your radar b/c you're picking up a home depot and THEN a cop shoots at you.

A measure of a good radar detector isn't "how often it falses" but rather how much and the kind of information it gives you. A cop shooting "always on" radar should be easily detectable from almost 2 miles away with the x50 while falses such as automated doors have much shorter ranges (<1000 feet).

Individual threat tracking is clutch, especially where I live in the suburbs of Philly. There is often a white noise of various falses, but being able to look up at my radar detector and get the information I need about the kinds of bands I'm reading, how the stregnth is changing relative to my vehicle speed, etc.... those measurements are priceless.

I have it hardwired above my rearview mirror to my fog lamp switch (I dont have the lamps, just bought the switch) and it gets power from the convertable top circuit (which I also don't have) so it turns on and off with the car and the fog lamp switch overrides it. I can't imagine having done it any other way. The cords are such a PITA...

my $0.02

find out what is used in your area. My x50 supposedly picks up laser, but I know that nobody around here uses it, so I really dont care.

Theres a new radar type that sends out in quick bursts so that your detector can't pick it up. In most states it's required that the cop use a regular radar to confirm a pop reading. Most modern detectors with POP support throw a TON of inexplicable falses (at least the x50 does) so I wouldn't waste your time going after that unless you know you need it.

A: you'll be able to detect the sites from up to 2 miles in advance. That enough time for you to slow down rocket boy?

Q: Are you safe to speed on the freeways and streets without any worry?

A: HELL NO. You can still be paced, timed on vascar lines from an overpass or from the air, or th cop can just wait to turn on his radar until the last minute.

I have the v1 and I love it. My brothers have the Passport and they are always giving me ****** but they never know where the signal is. I love my v1 and I will never be without now. I think it was well worth the money and it basically comes down to preference but I will always have the v1.

Glad you like it

It's definitley true that you're left a little in the dark about where the signal is coming from, but I have always wondered how the multiple threat scenario played out with a V1? You go past a big box store, hit automute (or whatever valentine has) and then a real threat shows up. What happens?

IMO it doesn't really matter where it's coming from. Radar detector goes off, doesn't matter if the cop is behind, in front, to the left or to the right. I'm slowing down.
