Belkin Pre-N router and Google Talk Voice Quality

A friend has a Belkin Pre-N router, on both wired and wireless clients, Google Talk Voice and Windows Live Messenger Voice both sound weird. The audio can be clear, and it cuts in and out, the voice will be choppy like. Every 1.5 seconds or so it will cut off a word. Directly connected to the internet, the quality is crystal clear, and smooth. Anyone else expierence this or have ideas why this is so?
