Belkin Pre-N networking help

I have a Belkin G router and just added a Belkin Pre-N router in AP mode to my home network. I am trying to use the Pre-N router as an AP to get signal to another part of my house. But when I plug my computer into the Pre-N router in AP mode, I get no IP address even though I set the Pre-N router in same range as my existing G router.

I figured I would go with the Pre-N router instead of a desktop card since there will be multiple computers plugged into it.

I have ran older Linksys B equipment like this without any problems.

Will the Pre-N router connect in AP mode to my G network? Do I need both router and AP to be Pre-N? It is not a distance issue either as I have tried the routers right next to each other.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think you are Not clear in the Modes.

When in AP mode the device would talk only to another device in AP Mode.

You need a Client Mode or Repeater configuration. Being a MIMO do use these modes it probably needs another MIMO.

I am borrowed a spare Belkin Pre-N from my brother and now have 2 along with the G router. I cannot use the Pre-N as my primary router because I get choppy Vonage service.

My other option is to use both Pre-N's in bridge mode and just hook one up to my existing G router.

Sound feasible?

Wireless Cable/DSL Routers are a combo of a Router, and regular Gateway Access Point.

In most of them checking the AP mode just disable the Router part.

Two APs in regular gateway mode can not talk one to the other.

They need to be capable to set as a Client Access Point, and or Repeater/WDS.

I do not think that the MIMO can do Client, or WDS, and thus you can not make them talk to anything but a client Computer.

It seems that your option is to use a cable for part of the way and bring one MIMO closer to the "dead points".

Or buy other hardware.

Yes there is bridge mode.

I just wish I could get the MIMO and Vonage working. I had tried in the past and got Vonage working at my dad's with his Linksys MIMO router but it won't work with the Belkin.

Anyway, it is a costlier option to run in bridge mode but cabling is not an option.

Thanks
