Belkin F5D7231-4 to Linksys WRT54G

Hey guys, noob here and I have a couple questions concerning the wrt54g. I currently have a wireless network at home with a belkin F5D7231-4 router. I am looking to use the wrt54g as a gaming device to hook up my xbox. My questions is, if I purchase the wrt54g will I be able to do this? Will it work with my belkin as being the primary router and the wrt54g as the receiver or do i need the same manufacturer for both to work? I heard something about a flashing program? do I need that? And where do I get it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It has an option to use the wrt54g as a client, but as many have reported, it disconnects every 5 seconds. This is a known problem with the version of Linux in the firmware. Don't know if they (sveasoft) has a fix coming out for this or not.

But besides that there is no problem using 2 different manufacturers (Belkin - Linksys)? So it should work right?
