so my belkin got caught again being a belkin, sigh
now its to the point, as soon as money is available, I want to replace it with something that will provide a solid connection with good throughput, under, reasonably priced would be around $50 but I don't see anything good, except for a linksys 54g router, throughput was around 15mbps though according to cnet.

okay, as for the belkin acting up:
i have the computer i am on right now connected through wifi (linksys 54g pci), and a computer downstairs directly connected to the router.
both computers can access the internet and all applications that need internet access can, well, access the internet. both computers can ping the router, but neither computer can access the routers admin page. no clue how to fix that either
and at times, the wifi-connected pc will not be able to access webpages, period, yet gaim and other apps still stay connected.

any ideas?
and any product suggestions?

so its a good belkin router, but is it better than the slightly more expensive linksys? I don't wanna invest in another belkin product if I can go linksys and have better stability.

and apparently now I can access the admin page.. okay, so I haven't even done anything either so now I knows its just plain flaky. it needs to go out office space style, bat and all.

I havent tried that particular Linksys model so I cant say which is better. From what I read about them in the reviews they are about on par with each other. Originally I found more info on the Belkin than the Linksys. I think Belkin got their Pre-N model out first so I found more info on it to begin with. For me the final clincher at buying time was that the Belkin model was cheaper.

We have the F5D7231-4 and it does the same thing. Usually this is due to me messing with the admin pages with my PC, which is wirelessly connected. It really doesn't like that for some reason. Same sympoms, everything works except you can't get the admin applet to come up from any PC, even those that are wired to it.

It has the newest firmware. Rebooting the router fixes it. I don't really know how to fix it other than rebooting it. I'd buy the Linksys WRT54G, but it's my dad's router and he'd be pissed if he suddenly saw a blue curved thing sitting next to his PC instead of his square gray box, even if everything still worked just the way he was used to.

im just looking to replace it, simple as that. the thing sucks and well, has driven me insane. last thing I want is to be in a heated match and it decides to kill its internet signal. :disgust:

wireless is flaky (you can't control the radio frequencies)

doubtful it is the hardware.

try a wired connection to see if this is the case.

also try switching to channels 1, 6 or 11.

im on channel 11 now, i will have to get a benchmarking utility that will work with my setup and try switching channels
as far as wired, this computer has no possibility of seeing a wired setup, which is why I am wireless in the firstplace. I hate wireless, its way too slow for me, but whatever, gotta deal with it.
but the computer downstairs (wired) can be just as flaky. So I really do believe it is the hardware.

Out of curiosity how slow is it? Does it say how many Mbps you are transmitting and receiving? Should also tell you your signal strength.

windows says full strength and 54mbps, but when transferring a file from the computer downstairs that is directly connected to it, I timed the transfer and after calculating I only get about 11-16mbps.
certainly not 54g worthy.
