Yes, sorry to spoil the fun but he's fake

1) What's the oldest age of someone you personally know who still believes in Santa Claus (or what was their old age when they stopped)? Current Leader: 10yo Believer

2) Do you think it's necessary for your kids to believe in Santa? I didn't as a kid. Not that it was forced that I didn't, or that someone shattered the myth, but I always made the correlation between going to other distant relatives' houses and getting gifts direct from them... My financially struggling mother later said she quietly preferred that it worked out that way rather than have some made-up character take credit for gifts she pennypinched to buy :)

VeggieFrog was about 7yrs old when she asked her best friends mom... the mom said "If you don't believe in him, he wont come to you house and leave you presents".... VeggieFrog said that was the end of it for her.

My daughter is nine and she's 100% on board.
She'll hang in there as long as I keep answering her questions with questions. :)
As soon as she outmanuevers me, we're going to have problems.

As a parent, it's up to me to help her keep her innocence and faith.
When she's older I'll explain why.

I'm wondering about age myself...........(I don't really remember *when* exactly I found out). I'd guess around 7 or 8.

My daughter turned 9 recently and she already tried to convince my 5yr old that there's no Santa Claus, so I'm guessin' she's onto us!!!

:p

Indeed. I guess I'll never really know what I missed out on having not experienced it myself... not that I'm lamenting it or anything.

The whole question arose b/c my gf is all pro-Santa for future children, while I'm indifferent. I would NEVER stand in the way of someone weaving the tale, though, or be so bold as to be the one to wreck the myth.

you need to go to amazon and buy a copy of berkley breathed's red ranger came calling. it's the most wonderful book, with such an OH WOW ending, it'll buy another year of wonder for a wavering child.

I bought a copy when I was working the elementary bookfair when my son was in 4th grade (so he was 9). I read it during a lull and when I got to the end I went "oh.. wow.." and knew it had to come home with me. when my son's class came through I showed it to his teacher and she read through it and said "oh.. wow..". when my son got home from school I read it to him and he went "oh.. WOW!". when my daughter got home from school I read it to her (7th grade) and she went "oh.. wow. wow...". when my husband got home from work I handed him the book and he read it and went "oh. wow...". rofl.

it's that kinda book. you need a copy.

far as I know my kids still believe in santa (18 and 21). they're not tellin' and I'm not askin' so we oughta be able to continue on like this forever.

Hmmm... Santa is real dude ! :Q

Santa only brings small gifts to my five and six year old brother and sister so that my parents get to take credit and get thank you's for the gifts that they buy for them.

The five and six year old definitely still believe in Santa right now. My five year old brother was fixated with chimneys last year, and he was very concerned because my parents don't have a fireplace, but we have our chimney which runs outside from our basement for our heater. My brother was petrified that Santa was going to get stuck in the wall. :D

I think I stopped around seven. I don't know what I want to have my kids believe. Maybe something about Santa Claus representing the spirit of Christmas and being generous or something.
