I just installed an accoustic edge sound card, updated the drivers to the latest version via the philips website, and I'm running windows millenium. 30 mins after booting, a melody that is definitely not random but not very good sounding will play. It is a couple piano keys played at the interval of 2 sec each. For example, C E D D C F G and then it'll keep looping over and over until I change turn my comp off. To make it even weirder is that it comes out of a different speaker everytime! Pretty freaky eh?

man that sounds scary! :Q
did you uninstall the drivers from your previous soundcard before you put in the AE?

Yep it was a soundblaster live and I uninstalled that software.

It is so scary!!! It's like someone wants me to learn this piano melody. One time it scared the living daylights out of me when it was a 1on1 for Counterstrike and I was trying to listen for footsteps when the melody starts playing!!!

My advice is to reinstall your drivers.. or someone in the room next to you is playing a joke.. neat post.. interesting. Maybe use some WIN2k drivers from the disk itself. Ive actually never heard of that card

thats great. yeah a couple of years back when I left my guitar amp on but didnt have the guitar plugged into it these 2 guys that sounded like a radio show started talking and laughing uncontrolably. It was one of the scariest things that I have ever seen and it happened 3 or 4 times.

anyone else have something like this happen./

I heard something a while back about certain motherboards acting like this in certain situations. Can't remember the specifics though. Try searching for it.

I get random sounds from time to time as well, and guess where they come from? Those web site ad banners. I keep the Anandtech and FiringSquad forum IE windows open almost all times, and once in a while an ad comes up with music running, that could be why you're getting the strange melody.

If only it were that simple as an open IE window. It's always the same melody, it will happen at a random time after the computer is booted, it doesn't matter what I am doing at that time (ie. playing an mp3 or counterstrike) and this strange melody will just start playing out of a random speaker. I've tried installing the drivers that came with the card itself and same problem... Anybody got an exorcist? :Q

Picking up random radio frequency. The fact that it is repeating the tune...... makes it a challenge to figure out from where...?

Neighbors doorbell? lol. :)

Did you make sure you got rid of the Liveware program from your SB card, since that contains a piano program.

Actually now that I think about it, it does sound like someone's doorbell tune.
I'm surprised that no one has had a similar problem yet. This card is brand new out of a retail box and all I did was install it and download the newest drivers

Ahhhh it just happened in the rear right speaker less than a minute ago. Same melody consisting of piano keys playing in succession. Maybe I should just reformat :) That seems to fix just about everything

Sound like youve got a little problem there with them ghosts, I believe they just want to play a nice little song to you, make sure you clap for them and they will leave
