I currently just use a wireless MS optical mouse, from their comfort duo or whatever... I want to eventually switch to a Saitek Eclipse, and maybe get a new mouse to go with it.

Is the G5 a good choice? Im used to wireless mouses, but I never leave the mousepad with it so its not necessary.

is $40 a good price? I understand its under most of the retailers ive checked.

The G5 is an excellent mouse. The only thing I don't like about it is the stiff wheel button and the tilt wheel, which I always click accidently. Unfortunately, more and more mice these days have that tilt wheel. Oh, and there's only one thumb button.

Other than that, the thing glides very well across most surfaces. Feels extremely nice. The price is pretty good. You can get it for 40 bucks only after rebate usually.

Why did they remove a thumb button? I use both all the time, especially when browsing going forward and backward.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just read another thread where you can set the tilt wheel to go forward and backward in a browser. Still odd they'd get rid of a button.

If there was one thing that I didn't like about the G5, it would be the missing thumb button. It's clear that Logitech listened to gamers' feedback when designing the rest of the features of the mouse, but I have not heard a single person praising the missing thumb button.
