New York (CNN) – Need help from city hall? If you are looking for a quick response, you might want to send a "tweet" as well as making that customary phone call.

The daughter of a 65-year-old Newark man did just that when she used Twitter to directly ask Mayor Cory Booker to help shovel her dad's driveway on New Years Eve.

Ravie Rave, otherwise known as @BigSixxRaven on Twitter, was at work and could not help her father shovel, so she sent a tweet to the mayor asking for assistance.

Five minutes later Booker messaged her back.
"I will do it myself where does he live?”

With over 1 million followers, Booker is one of the most active and followed politicians on Twitter, the popular social networking micro blog.

“Please @BigSixxRaven don’t worry bout ur dad,” Booker tweeted. “Just talked 2 him & I’ll get 2 his Driveway by noon. I’ve got salt, shovels & great volunteers.”

Twenty minutes after reading the first tweet, Booker knocked on the father’s door with a shovel in hand. He even had volunteers pitch in to help after seeing the conversation on Twitter.

Once the driveway was cleared, Rave tweeted back to Booker.
“My daddy is a happy man,” she wrote. “He took pictures of his Mayor shoveling his driveway! lol”

Newark is the largest city in New Jersey, and the county seat of Essex County. Newark has a population of 281,402, making it the largest municipality in New Jersey and the 65th largest city in the U.S. In 2008, Newark was ranked as the 24th most dangerous city.[

I guess being the Mayor of one of the most Dangerous cities in NJ is one of the most boring jobs huh? Not much to do. If politicians have a free minute, they're not doing their job.

I would rather see him shoveling someone's driveway than shoveling blow off of some hooker.

Well, it could be worse. You could be the governor of New Jersey. There really isn't that much to do besides eating.

😀

I would be geeked if I heard about our mayor doing something like this. Everyone has free time (see Obama's vacation) and I think its great that this guy helped out someone in his city.

Your tax dollars hard at work. The city of Newark did not give him his government salary to shovel snow. We can hire minimum wage workers for that.

Is he a full time mayor? Ours is part time, which I think is great.

Regardless, our country would be a thousand times better if more politicians humbled themselves like this.

do you actually know anything about Booker or did you just read this on some aggregate site?

he's been a pretty awesome mayor for reasons other than snow shoveling.

from wiki:

From 2006-2008, crime dropped by the following percentages: murders 36%, shooting incidents 41%, rapes 30%, and auto thefts 26%.[28] In 2008, Newark had its lowest murder rate since 1959.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Booker#cite_note-Time2009_07-27..

In addition to lowering crime, Booker has both doubled the amount of affordable housing under development, and quadrupled the amount under predevelopment. Booker has slashed the city budget deficit from $180 million to $73 million.

but clearly, this guy is a terrible mayor because you say so.

He does that stuff too.

Setting a good example does as much good sometimes as legislation or executive appearances.

Kudos to the mayor of Newark. So long as he isn't doing just this kind of stuff all the time, and so long as he fulfills his other duties, I 'm not seeing any problem here.

This is better suited for P&N, btw.
