lyfinally rented this one. I figured it was going to be either a cheesy chick flick or some weird artsy crap, but from a friend's strong reccomendation, I checked it out.

MAN that movie was trippy. Totally kicked ass though. :) I was delightfully suprised. The whole lesbian/malcovich love triangle thing was oddly titilating, and the matter-of-fact way they presented such stuff like the 7 1/2th floor of a building, etc. just blew my mind.

Was this movie up on last years oscars? if not, I think it should've been nominated for best picture or something this year. :) Dont flame me if it already won something or is nominated, I work nights and I dont keep on on Oscar stuff or prime time TV.

anyway, I searched but didnt find a thread discussing it.. so if you've seen it, what did you think?

Interesting, definately something a little different from the current run of the mill movies. Worth watching.

I usually enjoy those intellectual sort of movies - Pi, American Psycho, Fight Club, ect. But for some reason this movie just rubbed me the wrong way.

Can't really explain why, I just know that I would probably not willingly watch it again.

How can you put American Psycho in the same sentance with Pi? Pi was incredible, but American Psycho was about as incredible as a Friday the 13th movie. :Q

And yes, Being John Malkovich was a great movie. Also from that year, I liked American Beauty and Magnolia. If you want a really trippy movie, rent a Terry Gilliam film, like Brazil or 12 Monkeys. THAT will blow your mind.

Being John Malcovich was great; I loved it and own it. But I have to agree with spamboy there; if you want a really trippy movie, rent Brazil. It rocks and then some. :)

Yeah, and if you can, try to rent the Criterion Collection version of Brazil and watch the "TV" edited version. What a load of crap. I didn't mind the North American theatrical version, but I didn't understand a couple of things until I watched European release. That's my fave.

I did not like 12 Monkeys though. I felt like I was watching Brazil all over again, but with worse acting.

Malkovich!

Funny, I bought the DVD really cheap (from MobShop) over six months ago and didn't get around to watching it for the first time until last weekend. It kicked ass!!! I mean, just totally whacked but I enjoyed it.

All I can say is Mr. Malkovich deserves props for playing himself in the movie. He was fantastic! It was funny when he went through the portal himself. "Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich? Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich."

Brilliant!

BJM was good, had a few twists I didn't expect and was overall fairly entertaining.

Pi was a real knockout! Though, their occult and Kabbalistic references were inacurate. Oh well, what can you expect?

actually, a long time ago I started watching Brazil, I think it came on TV or something. I quickly turned it off though because I "didn't get it". I would give it another shot, I was much younger at the time.

Hmm, so I'm reading this thread and I see "intelectual(sp)" and "Fight Club" mentioned in the same sentence. Ok.

BOT: I really like Being John Malkovich. It's original, strange, and interesting.

I loved BJM, and own it.

I second dabuddha's reccommendation of Cube. That is an amazing mind-fsck type of flick. The acting isn't the greatest, but man is it a cool movie. :)

There isn't much of anything being spoiled.

Believe me, knowing that there's a love triangle involved doesn't give away a damned thing.
