Eh, I don't notice a huge difference here, and the problem with it dropping packets is actually rather annoying, it often results in many icons showing up as X instead.

What this means is a huge chunk of bandwidth is dedicated to people who pay. Since most don't pay and their bandwidth was chopped, it makes it a lot slower. I doubt Anand bought a bunch of extra bandwidth just for the subscribers. What that does in turn is promote more people to buy a subscription to have access to the same bandwidth they had before the sub services came out. Eventually, the subscribed bandwidth will become slower as more people hop on. Now the question is, will anandtech keep the subscribed bandwidth up fast enough so that current subscribers are happy, otherwise they will cancel their membership because the advantage of subscribing is gone, so why not just get the same service for free. And will that bandwidth come from the unsubscribed end of things, risking alienating the member base that does not pay by continually slowing their pipe down? Or will all future bandwidth speed upgrades apply only to the subscription service and leave the unsubscribed pipe the same?
If this has already been answered, feel free to flame me

Well, we'll see as time goes on. >>
The problem seems to have improved lately, and it is quite speedy right now. I hope it stays that way.
<< It was speedy last night for the non-subscribed, might have something to do with the weekend. >>
Yeah...it was awesome last night (I just subscribed this morning) but it was at a standstill this morning....
No time like the present to subscribe, eh?
Well it is fast enough for me, so I chose not to pay. I also have a sneaking suspicion that if it every got too slow for even my tastes, I would simply find a quality alternative that did not charge.

Yeah...maybe...but look at that post count of mine.

So you paid money to get more posts. Brilliant, I think I will subscribe right now!
Oh wait, my post count just went up 1 and how much did I spend?
So what did you folks think of the payment process? I thought it was really clunky. Especially when it comes back to AT and asks me to create my new subscription account. It wasn't clear to me if I changed anything it would be the same account/postcount or a new account. I build these kind of web systems, and while the rest of AT seems so well put together, this really seemed crappy.
I like the speed and everything but I'm still waiting for more stuff. Here's what you get right now:
Increased Private Message Limit (1000 PMs instead of 100)
Dedicated Server Access with improved performance (significantly more bandwidth offered to subscribers for faster access)
Full-Text Search
Buddy Lists
No Banner Advertisements (faster access without any annoying banners) ...plus much more to come
Ok, so what is it and when will it get here? My Subscription runs out at the end of March (I think) and I'm not sure of I'm going to sign back up.
Oh great, I went to View my Subscription info and I accidently clicked Logout of the Subscriber Network. Now I can't sign back into the Subscription area because it says my Subscription has run out! ARGH!! :|:|:|

whoa b0mbrman you are one crazy being i will subscribe today~
<< i've been here since before the new forums, and I refuse to subscribe. >>
Don't bother. They don't even give you a thank you. >>
They might not say thank you, but you do get a "Welcome to Anandtech Subscriptions!"
Yes, I would know because I just had to signup again
Just another 3 month period though...we'll see what happens by then. My subscription runs out in May so if I'm still only paying for faster forum access I'll forget about the forums and go spend some time outside a little.
