I picked up a paper route to make some extra cash to pay off some bills while I'm in school and let me tell you...it's the best job a full-time student can get!

I deliver between 125-150 papers a day to various apt complexes around my neighborhood. From start to finish it takes me 2-2.5 hours. While it does suck to get up at 4am 365 days a year, having my days completely free is worth it.

Last month I made $1000 and my route is not one of the biggest moneymakers since its apartments. If you get a driving route you can make $1500-2000 for a maximum of 3 hours of work a day. Not too bad in my opinion.

At first all my friends made fun of me until I showed them my first paycheck. Two thumbs up!!

Not bad! Do you collect the payments yourself from the people? If so, expect a nice bonus at the xmas holidays.

Haha,

I had a driving route (120 house and like 10 apt. papers) with afternoon deliveries and I paid my little brother to do the actual throwing while I drove. It wasn't a bad gig.

Yeah, if you collect the money, you get a ton from tips during christmas. I think I split $400 in tips with my bro.

No, both a blessing and a curse I think. I'm sure I would make much more in tips by collecting in person but with some routes being upwards of 300 papers, one has to wonder if the time it would take would be worth it. I spend about 30 minutes a month doing billing and I still make a decent amount of tips. When I started the route I included a letter telling the subscribers a little bit about myself and letting them make special requests in terms of how they want their paper delivered. It helps quite a bit.
