I'm building a new rig using a Lian-Li PC-60 and would like to know whether drives in the standard beige-grey or black would look best. If both colors look pretty bad, I'll just buy the Lian-Li matching auminum face-plates.

Beige looks pretty bad on silver, worse on black. Black looks good with silver, but matched brushed silver would be ideal. Just be careful about which drives you buy if you want to use the silver face plates, LL doesn't make plates for some drives. (personally I wouldn't buy drives on basis of looks or compatibility with faceplates)

Chiz, of course I wouldn't buy drives based on looks! But most drives come in beige and black, so that's why I was wondering which of the two colors make for a better appearance against the aluminum case. Of the two, sounds like you would much prefer black.

senior guy... If you haven't bought your Lian-Li case yet, why not get it in black? That way you can get drives with black bezels to match - and avoid that hassle. ;)
