He's working on that right now. ;)

Hello, I'm really interested in the DKM engine. The links in this post don't work. Do you still have access to the animations?

Holy necro
I've been searching the Internet for info and pictures of the DKM Wankel for over a year now. I even started modeling my own engine in 3ds Max from the images, etc. in Wankel's patent. So, when I found this post it was exciting at first and then disappointing when I realized the links were dead.

Felix Wankel's first engine was not what you see today in the Mazda RX7/RX8. The original rotary engine had a rotating engine spinning in the same direction as the rotor. This provided perfectly balanced rotary motion.

Here is a historical photo:

Now, here is the 3d animated model a friend of mine is helping me build:

Hello. Do you still have access to the 3D model your friend was working on for you or the animations?

Ooph that was 12 years ago... the animation he made was part of an activex control which stopped working properly a few years after he made it. A few hard drive failures later and moving web hosts around, all of that is long gone. Doesn't look like wayback machine ever grabbed those 2 files from the site. :(

Well hey, thanks for the reply. I'm still working on a 3D model in 3ds max. It was really cool coming across your post because I've been looking for anything to do with the Wankel dkm engine for a while now. I think Wankel's original design still has potential...

Well good news, I got in touch with my friend and he still has the original files. Just need to figure out where to put them...

I agree, even with a lot of engines moving to electric, I think DKM could still play a role in producing that electricity. Back when I was pursuing actually building this thing, my plan was:
  • Ethanol fueled with water content optimized to maximize steam expansion
  • Diesel-compression based ignition
  • Stationary ignition chamber at in-port
  • Dual rotor chambers - the 2nd chamber is larger with a rotor that moves at 2/3 the speed so the primary chamber exhaust has more time for expansion to reduce heat waste, would also happens to be the rotation ratio for the primary chamber's spinning housing (primary housing and secondary rotor can be 1 solid unit)
If the ignition chamber couldn't get hot enough using compression alone, I had an idea to use microwave ignition due to the fuel mixture having a high water content, by hiding a magnetron behind a ceramic plate.

Wow, those all sound like really great ideas! I figured there had to be at least a few people out there in existence who think the DKM still has potential. I was just mostly curious in the beginning, but then I realized that it probably still had great potential that was never fully explored. Especially with the leap in technology from the late 50s to the present, you would think there would be more potential than even Wankel hoped for 60 years ago!

As far as a place to put the files, something like Dropbox is a great way to share things over the Internet.

Apologies for the necro, well, a few months is nothing compared to 12 years, that must be some sort of record! Anyway, I created this account purposely to respond to this thread. I would love to get my hands on this animation.

This thread still appears to be quite prevalent when searching for information on DKM engines, so if the animation (or a link to it) could be posted on this thread, it would certainly help many researchers get their hands on this animation.

The last I saw, Sagalore was in the process of sharing the animation with Charles Medina, if this animation is still available, I would love to have access to it.

This design is one of the most mechanically balanced engines ever built, thus, I am in awe of it. I would love to build one myself. What I am lacking, however, is the knowledge of how the whole things work!

If you could take a few minutes to post this animation for admirers to see, I'm sure the DKM engine would get more of the recognition it deserves.

Thanks in advance,

Sam

This is a duplicate of the previous post, but I wanted to make sure as you may not be subscribed to this thread anymore.

Sam, I wasn't setup to receive updates from this forum and I obviously don't check it regularly, so I just saw your post. I also joined this forum simply to respond to this thread. It's nice to know that there is still some interest in the DKM engine. From what I understand, the files are still available, but the animation is not and I didn't receive anything from SagaLore.

I was struggling last summer to work on my own 3D model of the DKM, using the few images I found from the Internet and the diagrams from Wankel's patents. I actually started modeling it a couple years ago, it's just one of many projects that I work on when I find the time. I think it would be really interesting to see where this engine could be taken, especially with the technology we have today!

If you're still interested maybe we could correspond by email or something.

Thanks for the reply Charles.

That's awesome, I wish I had that kind of 3D modeling expertise!

Yes I am still interested, but I don't really want to post my email address on a public forum, is there some way we can private message on here?

Thanks,

Sam
