So a friend's friend wants to hire me to take photos of their new restaurant for their website and to hang on the walls. I've done a few events of families and friends but did them free because I was still learning. But i'm confident in my skills now that I can charge since they're willing to pay.

how much would you charge for something like that?

fuzzybabybunny - saw your post on the other forum. i figure i would just take the shots and let them do what they want print wise, etc.

My buddy asked me to take pics of his car to post on some car forum. He said other people hire photographers for $100.
and I'm thinking that's the low end

:Q Thats freaking dirt cheap. I'm not a profesional, but I still would not do it for that price.

yeah that's the dilemma i face. i don't want to charge to little but also don't want to charge too much that they'd look elsewhere.

don't have very many details other than it's a restaurant, they're looking for prints to hang on the interior as well as post on their website.

Most photographers have set prices for each step. So much for the time to set up the shots and shoot them, for post-processing, for discs, for printing, etc. You might want to set up a price list for each thing you could do and give them the option of which things they want done. You could set the prices by how much time it would take you and how much you think they would be willing to pay.

For example:

Set-up/Posing fee - $
Shoot fee - $
Post Processing - $
CD - $
Prints - $

So many people think that photography is just aiming a camera and making a few clicks with a button. That gives them more of an idea of the time and effort that goes into it.

I'd be annoyed if I had to pay for every detail like that. I'd feel like I was being swindled somewhere along the way. But then again, I've never had to charge for a shoot before :p

Hmmm friend's friend? I'd def charge him a fair amount. If it was a friend, then you could bend I guess.

How about estimating how many hours it will take you. And divide that $100. $100/5hr = $20/hr

Why not use this as a starting point and then adjust for being a noob in the business?
