Beginner programmer in VB6... I would like to know what book I should get?

I am a novice, and when I say novice I mean novice. Beginner, I know pretty much nothing. I would like to start out with visual basic 6, and if you guys can recommend a great book to start off with I would be sooo appreciative!

Nerd,

Sams Publishing (not the wharehouse) sells a 2 book series called "Visual Basic in 24 hours, or is it 21 days" and "More Visual Basic in 24 hours, or is it 21 days." The books also come with a free version of vb. The version it comes with won't let you make exe's, but it will do everything else. I bought the whole set for 40 bucks as Barnes and Noble B&M.

Also, I know you posted this in OT, but why do you want to learn VB?

I would recommend another language first. One that makes you stay more structured. VB lets you get away with a lot of stuff. It makes you a sloppy coder.

Maybe you could look into Python.

I heard that Microsoft will be dropping support for VB in the near future in favor of Visual Studio .Net. So VB may not be the best choice right now.
If you don't know anything about programming you might try to start with a scripting language like Javascript. There are plenty of good tutorials on the web. I learned it at www.webmonkey.com.

If you ar enot interested in scripting languages I would go with the suggestion made earlier and look at C, C++ or Java. Java would be my recommendation.
