I just got my new rig setup and I need a bit of help with overclocking. My specs are in my sig.

1. Is it much better to have lower multiplier with higher fsb compared to low fsb and high multiplier. At stock 17x multiplier, I can go to about 250 fsb @ 4250. But my ASUS board can lower multi to 14x. If i'm lucky I'll be able to 14x 285 @ 4000. Is the loss of 250mhz worth the boost in FSB or no? My DDR2 ram is rated at 675mhz so running it at 4:5 divider at 285fsb would be like 712mhz. Any thoughts on this?

2. This is a simplier question. I lock my PCI to 33mhz but what about my PCIe slot? Is there a specific frequency this thing should be at? My mobo gives me a whole ton of options. Should this be a multi of the FSB or locked or what? I haven't read anything so any facts would help.

Help this newbie :)

Thanks a lot people,

1. It's probably not a whole lot better to use the higher FSB, though the increased memory bandwidth (assuming you run 1:1) would probably make a bit more impact on a P4 than on an Athlon 64, which I'm more familiar with. I don't think you'd notice much difference, though.

2. I think Anand said something about this in one of his reviews of a PCIe board; there are apparently specific frequencies to set this at for various ranges of FSB speeds. You'll have to dig this up, though.
