Last time I was overclocking I was buying a buying a Northwind GFD to put on my SLOT A Athlon - err so its been awhile :)

Anyway I am running an AOpen AK77-8XN VIA KT400
Crucial 2700 DDR
ATI Raedon 8500
Maxtor Diamond Max ATA 133 7200
Allied 350w PS
Win XP
no pci Cards

Have had no problems getting my 1700 to 1900 via FSB @ 144 x 11. I am sure my CPU is locked at 11x mult as I have tried to change it in BOIS several times without any success.

I had the FSB at 150 x 11 and I booted into Windows fine but crashed installing Sandra. My question is where do I go from here? What should I be shooting at? and more importantly how do I get there? Was my crash due to not enough juice? Anyway thanks everyone!

(edit) forgot to add my temps are perfect Case 25 and CPU 38 @ 144 FSB

Ya just gota love oc'ing - dam glad to be back !

may need a voltage increase to go higher. also may be the stepping . i had a 1700+ AGOGA and it topped out at 1738mhz at 1.9 volts with water cooling.

i since went to a 1600+ AGOIA and it runs happy at 1838mhz . i have even booted into windows at 1901mhz but didnt test it any further.

those are my thoughts

Were you oc'ing it via the FSB? or multiplier?

I still can't get it stable in Windows @150 FSB. I'll try voltage increases I guess.

for myself it was FSB as i didnt unlock the 1700+ nor have i unlocked my 1600+

I can't get it past 1606mhz without increasing the voltage. Will increasing the voltage increase my stability at a higher FSB?

Not sure right now Snatch I am at work but I'll check the info I worte down from the cpu tonight. How much of a difference will that make? /e crosses fingers...

I think that the TB's o/c better, but they also require different voltages so it will affect our recommendations on how to proceed with increasing the volts.

I believe you have a palomino and generally a 250 O/C may be reachable. I have a Tbred 1700+ that hits 1890 easily at 1.60V. Can go higher if I want to.

I think it is a Palomino - hmm does that mean I am hitting the CPU's limit? :(

I just re-read the Athlon Agoia thread that is about 170+ posts log ) seems this baby has alot of potential

trying increaseing the voltage

and yes AGOIA is a good stepping .

Ok went up to 1.8 last night at 150 FSB x 11 (locked) and still had stability problems.

I assume that 1.9 should be my limit?

Pretty bummed at this point because I dont have any heat issues at all. Maybe I am missing trouble shooting an area - could it be my memory timing/settings?

With air cooling i usually stop at 1.9 volts for AMD's . Also what are your temperatures at under full load ?

i use TOAST as one such program while others use sisoft sandra cpu burn in also 3dmark2001 has been used in loop mode. there is also stability tester.

First off - Jen. Thank you ) You have been a huge help.

Secondly how should I measure the temps while running those progs? I didn't think that they ran in window mode? and the program I use to monitor cpu temp does not seem to log it - any suggestions?

Motherboard Monitior

see if your motherboard is supported by this program install it and set it up.

this will record your HI and LOW temperatures while testing etc

then what you want to try is prime 95 see if it crashs. if it does then its not stable. either need more cpu voltage or memory voltage

]
memory tho should be fine at 150 bus. i only had to raise mine when i went to 175

if everything seems stable and prime pass's

then try TOAST or sisoft sandra cpu burn

either should maximize the cpu useage .......also should give highest temperature.

i have let TOAST run for over a hour at a time to test for stability. others though have stated that running TOAST locked up thier computer that was otherwise stable in all other programs they used to test it. to me if it dont past either of the programs then something isnt stable .

my cpu did load into windows at 1901mhz that was 181 fsb but it locked when i tried to run 3dmark 2000. to me that wasnt stable enough to run it there.
