Beginner electric guitar

What's a good beginner electric guitar? I want one that is of decent quality. Eventually, I'd like to get a Gibson Les Paul 🙂

Heheheh...this gets posted every day. You can't tell people what to buy, you need to go to a guitar store and try out a few to which one fits you.

Ibenez, Fender, and Epiphone are a few decent names that sell low end models. Don't get caught up in the mindset that you want to play a certain guitar- it may not work well with your hands and may actually hinder your playing. Try a few out and see which one works best for you.

As Fritzo mentioned, we can't pick the guitar for you. When you're at the store trying them out, you'll feel which one is the best for you.

Seriously though, with all the people who are playing or starting to play guitar these days, girls aren't that impressed by it anymore. I'd suggest a banjo.

Hell no, it's all about the accordion.

Get an Agile from Rondo. It's the best bang for the buck if you are a beginner. You might grow out of the pickups after a while but the base guitar is quality. The low end Squires and Epiphones you will probably throw out the entire guitar when you get better.

I was playing that last night. 😛

I was lisetning to it just now. My bass = unplayable right now. Maybe I should fix that today.

that's why you need a backup .. or 3 in my case.

my brother snagged a nice spectre (?) 4 string bass at guitar center for $100. retails for around $800. even has active p'ups. sounds great.

LOL!

I love the banjo! It's tuned in G which makes it easy to pick up (in fact, G is my favorite alt guitar tuning). I have also played with a mandolin, but don't currently own one (would like to get one though. I have some ideas I'd like to record).

My brother has played banjo for over 20 years. Growing up we had an acoustic guitar tuned to G and I couldn't figure out at the time why I could never play any popular songs on it.

hey what is the best way to learn to play the guitar? videos, books, software? I mean, of course you have to sit there and play it, but I'm asking about the best guide to get you going on the important stuff like strum technique and all that stuff. any reccomendations?

Depends on the person. Books don't really cut it for me. Videos help to see what the guys is actually playing. Being with someone who plays and watching them and asking questions is the best way. And with all the technology these days like Guitar Port and stuff it's even easier to play along with your favorite songs.

A teacher is the best way. Books can't teach you much until someone shows you the basics, and they can't correct your mistakes or answer your questions. Videos are a little better, but nothing beats a live instructor. I would take at least a half dozen lessons before learning on your own.

Also...STICK WITH IT. It's like working out, sometimes you have to force yourself. Your fingers are going to hurt, and the only way they will stop hurting is to keep playing. If you can get through a few months of boring structure and theory, it will pay off for the rest of your life 🙂 Good luck!

This is not to impress any girls. I've always wanted to learn the guitar. Now I'm 34. Figured might as well be now or never.
