Hi,
I am experiencing difficulty with the Linksys "EtherFast® Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router w/4-Port Switch" in that the firewall appears to be working TOO well. Let me elaborate:

Windows 2000 Server with VPN (routing and remote access) running at home on a LAN with a Windows XP machine, and a Windows 2000 Pro Laptop, all sharing ADSL using the aforementioned router. In addition, I have PcAnywhere version 10.5 running on the server machine. The only machine with sharing enabled is the server.

I can use PcAnywhere 10 to make an outgoing connection from home to another location, but cannot connect TO the machine (using tcp\ip) no matter what I do. EVEN with the machine as a DMZ host, I cannot get a connection IN to the computer.

I can use the VPN, but ONLY if that machine is a DMZ host. Works really well then, but the moment I put it back behind the firewall, I cannot get a response from the server.

I have the latest firmware for the router (1.39.2 10/21/2001) but cannot help but notice it's older than firmware available for the BEFSR41 (the non-wireless version). I also have PPTP and PPP pass through enabled, Block WAN requests disabled (is this really neccesary?), and ports and UDP numbers 1723 (VPN) and 5631-5633 (PcAnywhere) forwarded to the server machine. Any ideas, or am I just supposed to wait until Linsys releases a new firmware?

You probably tried this, but I use VPN also and have no problems. You will need to enable the IPSec passthrough feature under Advanced setting in the settings page. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply!!!!
Alas, I have IPsec passthrough enabled! Are you using Windows 2000 server, and if so, what encryption. I am not sure (as I am at work now) but I may have L2TP instead of PPTP as a requirement for connection, which may not go through the router. I am still puzzled about the PcAnywhere not working though!
