BEFSR41 Randomly Reconnects

I recently got a BEFSR41, firmware version 2.00.02, for use in my dorm to hook up both my computer and 360 to the internet. Within 5 minutes of installing it, it started randomly dropping the connection and reconnecting within a few seconds.
I haven't tried much in the way of changing settings since I wouldn't really know what I was doing. My 360 and computer both have no trouble connecting to the internet and I'm able to go on Xbox Live and do matchmaking in Halo 3, but it will just randomly drop the connection and kick me out of any game I get into.
Sometimes there are up to a few hour intervals between drops and sometimes it happens literally every 2-3 minutes. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'm a bit upset that I'm having issues like this with a $60 router when a friend across the hall is running the same setup perfectly with one he got from a no-name company free after rebates.

Try changing the channel - sometimes having lots of wireless routers in one area creates huge amounts of interference. There are many channels available, try others ;)

Otherwise you might have a bad router...

Well it's a wired router, so I'm assuming it's just a problem with the router itself. I'll probably exchange it this weekend unless someone has a stroke of genius and knows what's wrong.

I was wondering why they was giving wireless advice for a wired router. I would exchange it and see if the problem persists.

Running any p2p? BEFSR41 sucks when it comes to p2p. I had a BEFSR41(v4) after my old BEFSR41(v2) died and it was terrible. WoW patches would cause it to reset (Blizzard uses BT for patches). I wouldn't trust a BEFSR41 for anything other then browsing the web and checking email. New ones (v4+) seem to be complete crap and the older ones (v2) while they weren't great they did their job for the most part. I returned it and got a Zyxel X-550. No problems with my X-550. I did have a power adapter go bad, but Zyxel was quick to send a replacement.

My recommendations

Dlink DGL-4300 - $79+tax/sh@outpost/fry's

Zyxel X-550

Sort of the DGL-4300 distant relative. Uses the same Ubicom processor, but doesn't have GbE. "Poor man's DGL-4300" so to speak, once on sale at CompUSA for $10AR and generally about half the price of the DGL-4300. But since DGL-4300 is on sale right now, it's a better deal than the X-550.

I would trash the befsr41.
Its a very poor router.
It can handle simple things like email or web sites, but anything more and it will crash and disconnect.

Anything made in the last two years would be better than it.

Same here with a BEFSR41 V2 and BEFSR41 V3. Complete crap.

Using a D-Link DGL-4300 now and it's been completely solid for me. Haven't had any screaming at the internets for dropping my connection while I am FPS gaming anymore.
