Building my own.

First time.

Purchased an AMD XP2400+ and a Thermaltake Volcano 9. Using the instructions that were on the Thermaltake website.

Just looking at the instructions, and then looking at the clip on my fan, to fasten the heatsink to the CPU, it looks like I would need to apply SIGNIFICANT pressure to get the clips fastened. The clip bar doesn't seem to have a lot of give in it. To top it off is says to use a flathead screwdriver to push the clip down and tilt inward. Around all that delicate circuitry????

Am I being overly paranoid (as a first timer ususally is)?

Maybe I'm just looking for some reassurance.

TIA

yeah...very scary the first time....

I have slipped a few times and hit a motherboard.....oops. Nothing damaged luckily.

Just go slowly and be careful.

Try several flathead screwdrivers and choose one that best fits that slot securely. Too big or too small could mean a slip, choose one just right. Just go slow and it should be ok. ;)

Actually, one thing that I will recommend for you: Get yourself one of those universal screwdrivers. you know, the ones with the bits that go in the end. Now, put the screwdriver on the heatsink clip WITHOUT A BIT. You'll find that the socket in the screwdriver locks around that little bit and won't slip off to hit the motherboard. It's the best way.
