Before I Knew How To Watch Anime Online, I Would Cry If I Missed An Episode!

I had DirecTV as a kid, my favorite shows was Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and Inuyasha.

Inuyasha would air around 2AM, so I would go to sleep and set my alarm to 2AM so I could wake up and watch the episode.

I was doing pretty bad at school because of lack of sleep.

I also would get very upset if someone was making loud noises so I couldn't here the show properly and I would get upset if someone asked me to do something while I was watching anime.

Later on my family got TIVO which let us record episodes which really helped with the anxiety of missing an episode, but the problem was that everyone wanted to record something and on TiVo you can only record one thing at a time, sometimes someone would want to record something at the same time I want to record something.

But one day I learned how to watch anime online, which COMPLETELY changed me and I was no longer having anxiety of missing an episode because I could watch them in my own convenience.

This ever happened to you?

I've watched anime, but have never cried because I missed a TV show. I didn't even like getting up at 6AM for the Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid, so I'd set up the VCR to record them.

I watch anime but I've ever cried over missing an episode...

When I got into it it wasn't on TV though, had to hunt down tapes and such to get it, got a lot easier with faster internet though. Before that I'd also order bootleg VCD and eventually DVD sets from Singapore and such, subs we're usually pretty bad but better than nothing. Eventually started using MIRC and became a host when I went to college and had a good connection. A lot easier nowadays for sure but also much harder to sift through the tons of different shows available.

I used to catch Saturday morning anime on sci Fi, started at like 5AM I think but I had a paper route back then so I had to get up early anyways. I remember watching Akira on there as a kid and just being blown away.

I still have the retail Akira VHS I bought in the late 90s :)
Got a bunch of spindles of VCDs too.
But it was plain old Saturday morning cartoons I was recording back then, there was no Sci-Fi channel. I'm talking about Captain N and stuff like that.

Fucking yutes. I had to go to a comic shop and rent comic books and read it there and then. Now I have hundreds of anime series on my Plex server.

It's probably the dub that turns them off. They all sound like whiny little bitches. I would not watch any dubbed anime. The Disney dubs of Ghibli films however, are decent.

You think they sound less whiny with the original audio?

Wow, I haven't thought about VCD's in like, ten or twenty years lol. Used to get those off eBay back in the day! Went through the whole Macross series that way haha.

Yeah I picked up Gundam Wing and DBZ and some other series this way back in the day. I don't think I got too many VCDs before DVDs came out though, I have quite a few DVD series I got from SIngapore that actually came in a nice box with really nice labels and stuff, looks almost like a real DVD set.

Bro you are missing out! Ghibli movies are amazing!
Yeah their stuff seems to be the best anime for non anime watchers if that makes sense. I've got a bluray set of all the movies it's really nice. Been a huge fan since Princess Mononoke came out here and introduced me to their stuff, though I think I saw some snippets of other movies before that.

People watching foreign stuff have it easy these days.

I remember back in the day, sending off blank VHS tapes to local fansub groups, who took the time to translate and subtitle anime. They would make a copy on your blank VHS's and ship it back to you. Great community back then.
