Before I install Windows XP Pro tommorow...

Ok I am going to test out WinXP Pro tommorow and wanted to know from your guy's experience.. is it faster overall than Windows 2000? I know its got higher system requirements than Win2k, but I want to know if it is going to be worth it if I mainly use my computer for games and multimedia and web programming with UltraDev and so forth.

Any tribulations would be nice 🙂

In my testing, under games, it averages 2-5fps faster than Win2k on my 1GHz/512Meg machine. It feels a lot faster than using WindowBlinds with Win2k, but just a tad slower than vanilla Win2k. Overall I am very pleased with XP's performance.

Another thing too is I have a Voodoo 3 3000 (yes its old) and I saw the other day that the x3dfx team came out with some XP compatiable drivers. If they didn't or none of you know where to get them, I can always try out the latest Win2k version of the drivers (since people said you can use Win2k drivers in XP)

<< Where the did you get WinXP pro if you dont mind me asking? Everybodys getting XP but me >>

None of them will tell you but chances are they all have the Corporate Edidtion that was released over the internet with no activation.

So, where do you get it, how do you activate it?

<< I have "connections" thats all I got to say 🙂 >>

Yeah, I did too. I was waiting for the official release. I know someone in the company I work(ed) for that could get me the program for $25, entirely legit. MS is one of the company's customers. However, I got layed off last Thurs. Oh, well...
