You should just go to your local beer supplier (whatever it might be) that has a decent selection and just pick up a random six pack that looks interesting to you. You might find a good, local brew.

I suggest checking out the beer thread in my sig first. :)

Also, what do you mean when you say you don't want to spend $10 max? Is that on a twelve-pack? A six-pack? There are of course exceptions, but generally speaking you get what you pay for.

From the beers you listed, I can't really tell what kind of beer you like, except for popular macrobrews. :p

What Sam Adams did you try? That might lead to some good suggestions.

Any size really, just not 1 bottle @ $5
I'm not sure but I think it's their Lager.

I would tell you go pick yourself up some Yuengling, but I don't think you can get it in Georgia (I don't remember seeing it anywhere the last time I was there).

I would suggest some of Brooklyn Brewery's beers (if you can get them), specifically the Lager, Pennant Ale '55, and Local 2.

Before you do that though, you might want to try some of the other Sam Adams since you said you liked the lager. They make some pretty good varieties, my favorites being the Cream Stout and Summer Ale.

yeungling has a brewery in florida, maybe he can find it in ga. yuenging is ok, but nothing special....unless you can find their bock. its a season, limited distribution brew, and its actually pretty damn decent.

/went to the original brewery this month
//it was neat, got some of their bock beer

some sam adams stuff is pretty good. the noble pils isnt bad, and i usually hate hoppy stuff, but the hops are nice and mellow in that.

anything by leinenkugel (well, havent had the summer shandy, but the rest is good). their 1888 bock is great, and the classic amber is as well.

killians irish red isnt bad for cheap beer. nothing special, but not bad.
fort collins also makes some good stuff, if you can find it.
magic hat has variety packs....check them out, they make some pretty good brews.
warsteiner makes a decent pilsner and dunkel, try them both, shouldnt be too hard to find.
widmer makes a tasty hefeweizen, pour it in a glass first.
widmer drifter is...really citrussy, not my thing but some people love it.
if you can find anything from shiner or brooklyn breweries, try those as well.

Killians is good for a $5 6 pack.

Yuengling is now in Georgia and it's roughly 6 dollars in most places.

most of the stuff so far looks pretty easy to deal with.

widmer drifter isnt, some in the magic hat variety pack will be strong one way or another. pale ale and ipa (india pale ale) have a good amount of hoppyness to them. pale ale less than ipa.

my usual max is $9 + tax for a 6 pack. if i get a custom 6 ill go as high as 10, i will very rarely pay more than that (or an equivalent price per ounce) for beer. sometimes for choice microbrews or imports, but not on a regular basis. i prefer strong stouts and porters but didnt list any...though a fort collins chocolate stout is damn good and not that strong.

I'll second the Brooklyn Lager.

Looking at the OP's like for gin and tonics, I know of a few local beers he would absolutely love. They have the very dry bitter, almost juniper flavour (pale ale and IPA), but you can only get them here. As far as other beers go, the Brooklyn Lager most closely approximates this, although in a much more subtle way.

The pennant ale is good, but IMO there are much better ales out there. The Brooklyn Lager is one of the best lagers I've ever had though.

If you're in GA, Sweetwater (out of Atlanta) makes some great beer. I'm sure you can find it nearby.

Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Beer (the Sierra Nevada version if you can't find the Boulevard), Shiner Bock, Bass Pale Ale, Tsingtao, Michelob...you would probably like any of those. The Bass and Tsingtao have a decent amount of hop bitterness.

You can hardly go wrong with anything by Sam Adams, Boulevard, or Sierra Nevada. Unless it's fruit-flavored > <

Man, I WISH I could get a custom six-pack for $10. Even with trying to keep the prices down, I still wind up at like ~$15-17 (I've gotten some damn tasty beer though).

EDIT: As a side note, the OP has good taste in cocktails. Gin & Tonics FTW!

thats some places

a couple others sell singles of most of their inventory by the bottle, with bottles priced individually...if you buy a sixxer of that, you buy whatever you want and get a 15% discount on the mixed pack...but thats all 12 ouncers.

ill get a single or 4 pack of pricier stuff but its rare. i may look this summer into brewing my own. ive really gotten to love beer, and i already love to cook and such, so i think itd be fun.

I'm thinking about doing this thing where I try a new beer every other week. I'll cut out bacon from my food budget and I should be set ;)

I live in Holyoke, MA. Home to Paper City Brewery. Once or twice a week they ask for volunteers to come help them bottle and box a new brew. For our time, we get FREE BEER. Luscious, delicious, freshly brewed beer straight from the giant, stainless-steel maw that created it. Plus we get to take a case home.
