  • Leave $1

  • Leave 20%

  • Always just the tip.

Ok, So we all know that the standard tip is $1 per beer. This is usually no problem because @$5 a beer that's still 20%.

The paradox is this: I went to "Marvel hero's live" and ordered 3 beers at the super-marked-up price of $10 each.

But that makes the standardly generous $1 a beer tip only 10%.

So what's more important, 20%, $1 per beer, or at these prices should the bar tender get nothing?

Note:
These were poured beers (black porters) from the tap: He filled the cup, waited for the head to die down a bit, then topped it off.

I'm not sure why I give the "bartender" $1 for each bottle he opens yet I do it everytime. wtf? That's less service than I get from the supermarket.

What kind of plebeian animal do you think I am... drinking from a bottle... really...

same comment applies, we're really giving a guy $1 for 3 minutes of work (who is already getting an hourly wage), and they may or may not even pour the beer correctly?

I don't provide tips for grabbing a bottle out of an ice box and you taking the cap off it (which is really only done because IIRC you aren't able to leave the premise with it open). Oh wow, don't break your fingers doing such tireless labor of moving 5 feet to take my order and then dropping your hand to the ice-chest of beer bottles just below you. I know you worked oh so hard, you deserve a tip!

Just because someone is employed and their employment is a service, doesn't mean that a tip should be expected. I work in consulting and provide services, I sure as hell don't get any tips. The whole notion that you need to tip for any job that is a "service" is ridiculous.

But really it depends on the circumstances. If I'm at a bar and I go to the bar and order the drink and I grab it off the bar, you didn't do any service. All "service" was done on my part. However, if you're sitting down at a restaurant and you tell someone else to go get the beer for you, that's obviously a little different.

I'll gladly donate $1 to any individual coerced into interacting with the public.

sure that works for a small bar, but at a concert or game where there are 20 bars and 60 people serving alcohol?

I don't usually get beer at *huge* events, but I've been to some large festivals where the bartender remembers me from previously(sometimes previous years).

You would be surprised ... word gets around.

The more crowded it is the more important that first tip in particular becomes.

lol, yeah I'm gonna believe that'll work out at a 20k person event, especially when bars are geographically located far as fuck from one another.

Cup? Did he pour it into the proper glassware? I'm a tipper, but no amount of pouring will make me tip a server who puts my beer in a basic cup.

then why the fuck do we give them $1?

Better service from them later on when they see I who tipped is wanting a beer and so is some cheapass who is like "fuck paying a tip for a moron to pour my beer!" I tip $2 usually, worth it to me to get better service then everyone else *shrug* The places I go to though most people tip so that's why I up mine to $2 or $3

If I lick the bottle and my tongue sticks to it, they get a tip. For really cold beer you need to respect the entire supply chain.

Of course it won't work at a stadium event I was referring to a very crowded bar with multiple servers.

I go to the same one every time if I like the bartender. I'll walk past closer stands to get to the one I want.

Hmm I voted a dollar tip but now thinking about it I dont normally tip at sporting events if I go to the beer stand, if the beermam comes by I always tip big up front so he keep coming back by!

I tip 20%.

If it's an open bar or the drinks are near-free, I'll tip the bartender $5-$10 for the whole night.

tip is based on service, not on cost. i wouldn't tip a flat 20% or even 10% on anything; if the meal is a super expensive affair, say, $500, i'd tip a 20, maybe $30 tops.
even with that bull that i'm supposed to pay for the waitress' wage, if she gets $20 for an hour, it's what i make and she's probably got a couple tables rolling at the same time.

btw, staffing is factored in food costs when you go dine out.

also, having worked for 7 years in restaurants, waiters aren't starving; actually, it's one of the best jobs you can have, when you have zero marketable skills.

TLDR thirty bucks is my ceiling + i dont tip for beer, unless exceptional circumstances.

where the heck do you even find a beer place that has table service, anyway.
