What's that mean exactly? You just want it complex in flavor, more alcoholic, or perhaps something else?

There are many great beer styles that are as complex, if not sometimes more, than wine. Belgian ales come in quite a number of different styles, and many of them are every bit as complex as a good wine. Some notable examples:

- Abbey Ales. These would include your well-known Trappists like Orval, Westmalle, Westvleteren, Rochefort, and Chimay. Rochefort 10 is an absolutely exceptional beer, so if you're wanting something complex (and highly alcoholic for a beer) try this one.

- Belgian Strong Ales. A lot of these are dubbel, tripel, and quadrupel; that just means they use twice, three times, and four times the malts for each beer, respectively. Some of them are "seasoned" with spices (e.g. cardamom), but there is a lot of flavor. St. Bernardus makes a great strong ale.

- Lambic. You should at least try it. Some brews are still fermented naturally; by that I mean they are not innoculated with yeast; rather, they let wild yeast ferment the wort. The result is often as wild and complex and the process itself. Cantillon makes some great lambics, but for me they're hard to find.

To me these beer styles are the best representation of what an ale can truly be.
