Brats boiling in beer right now. Life is good.
I simmer them in sacrificial Budweiser....it's usually one of the few times I would actually buy Budweiser is for simmering brats. As I said earlier, Budweiser is still a better drinking beer than many of the light beers. I want to say drinking too much of the really light or yellow beers can sometimes be like drinking too much apple juice...I get like some kind of acidity aftertaste I don't like from the hops/light malts. I used to could drink one or two of them, but upwards of a six pack is no bueno. I'm glad I'm past all that nonsense and much more focused now...save calories and drinking is more enjoyable in moderation.

Pretty much this. Though I do like a Guinness occasionally or another pretty thick stout. Spirits and cocktails are where the good times are.
Spirits and Cocktails don't quench thirst. Lawnmower beer and a cold one in the garage while tinkering with stuff is pretty legit.

What?

You would rather drink an ice cold beer mowing over driving around with a Bahama Mama with a little umbrella in the glass?

Hillbilly. :p

You should save the Bud after simmering the brats, let it cool, then drink it! I bet it would taste... interesting.

Only if I get to rim the glass with spice brown mustard.... :p

When you simmer beer like that, the yeast smell is actually really nice and the fat/oil from the brats as they cook also is nice..... After you eat 2-3 of them, however, you could care less about drinking the liquid. Also, I think when it heats up and boils, the C02 likely escapes from the liquid. I'm not sure what the best saturation temps are for carbonated beverages, but I'm pretty sure higher temps make the gas/liquids separate easier.

I don't make brats that often, but plan on getting my kids to eat them eventually. When I did homebrew, I used to throw Oktoberfest parties for about 30-40 people and would have my Bratwurst shipped from Wisconsin.

I've also hit up Sam's Club to get the regular beer & brats packs there in bulk, but the Nurnbergers are good. No one throws a sausage party like me.
