I'm sure we got strange looks too.

There is a place that does allergy testing, $400, but they also push their line of products which I don't like. I probably need to call my GP and get this done.
My wife went to an allergist and the bill was around $1100 or maybe $1300....not sure because the actual bill to her was $34. Not due to insurance....I think he was giving her a discount so she'd refer people to him. I was there when she did the tests....it was pretty wild.

You have been scheduled for termination. Report to the nearest murder booth.

Self-serve? :D

Anything that doesn't come out of a uk cask.

That said I'm willing to trade some wrongness for convenience!
If you are not in the US, I suspect you are clueless as how bad the canned cold piss that is sold as beer in the US actually is. Budweiser is the king of selling their horse piss.

I can't drink Budweiser. I literally can't get through a whole pint of it, my mouth kinda gets bored about a third of the way in. And I'm not super precious about what I'll drink in a pinch.

Mind you for US tastes you'd describe my ideal beer as flat, warm and bready! :D

I was making a joke about Zima being beer and knocked O'Doul's because there's no alcohol in it.

Don't be a beer snob. I appreciate many different styles of beer. I certainly don't gravitate to a lot of light beers because despite their low calorie count, they're just not as enjoyable. I like Coors out of a can (not Coors light and it's not the same in the bottle)....I don't mind Budweiser when I'm at a Ballpark or when other prices are way out of balance.....the Rice solids in those beers are used to lighten the body of the beer. The lower cost of those American Lagers is pretty nice...$1/beer is a great deal.

I've actually been somewhat upset with the influx of mass-produced seeming micro-brews that are being sold everywhere now. Budweiser and Coors and Miller have all been buying up as many of those smaller operations as they can. I even noticed quite a few labels that came out of Sierra Nevada recently that weren't labelled in a way you'd know they made it. This is all a ploy to sell people on the package and make you think you're getting something special in the can at $10/6 pack or more.

I brew beer and prefer German Lagers....Vienna Lagers to other styles. I do like a good UK pint too, but the hops profiles on Ales are a little much for me. When it comes down to mass consumption, I like something that's light amber colored with medium body in a 32oz or larger stein.

For summer, I like Mexican beers (because many are based on German beer styles) to go with just about everything and of course I like Kirin Ichiban, Sapporo and Asahi when eating Sushi...

Not a snob, drink a variety of styles, from stouts, porters, belgiums, lagers, saisons, pales, IPAs.. not that keen on sours, but open to most anything just not the mass-produced stuff Bud tries to pass off as lager or beer. NOTHING lite.

I would seriously consider home brewing, if I didn't live within 10 miles of over 50 craft breweries, and we get to socialize when we visit them. You meet really nice people where they serve really good beer. COVID shut that down for a while, but we are now going back to breweries on a regular basis, with vaccines and warmer weather. There were 4 craft breweries here when we discovered good beer 20+ years ago.

There are lagers and ales...the only difference is the type of yeast used. Ale yeast likes a particular temp range (typically warmer, like when you're proofing bread) and lager yeast tends to work well at lower temps....though slower. When I spoke about my love for German beers, I prefer things like Oktoberfest (Marzen Lagers). They're brewed in March and they ferment for 6 months months....it results in a nice, smooth beer that's got more flavor development due to its age.

I totally get what you're saying. Those of us that don't have access to that kind of selection make due....I seriously don't have any problem slumming it with a cheap and dirty American beer, but once again...I can close my eyes and remember just about every style/type of beer I've had (I've sampled probably 300+ main stream labels and who knows how many micros.) A lot of it gets repetitive and you eventually settle on a few styles that are your absolute favorites. Sometimes, you don't want to guess how good or bad a micro's going to be. =P

I've had issues with certain types of hops for years now. Some Ales just send me sneezing all night. Pale ales, IPAs, Ambers....I haven't narrowed it down to if it's some specific varieties (I ain't got time for that shit), but I definitely have some allergic reactions to certain styles--though I think it might be some common hop varieties used across styles, because not all varieties are a problem.

...but you know, it could also be a malt thing. I know malt varieties are also shared across styles, so I dunno.

Fiancee has this same exact reaction. Turns out she is allergic to both gluten AND hops! What a nightmare. Luckily she doesn’t like it anyway (probably due to a negative reaction every time) and it’s easy to cook really good gluten free food these days.
