Beer => Loss of self discipline.

Why does this happen?

I have been losing weight steadily for the past few months. I have gone from 220lbs to 195 lbs, but at 195 I seem to have bottomed out and it is all because of beer.
Why is it that I can go for days not even thinking about fast food, but as soon as I have more than five beers inside me the desire to eat crap overwhelms my whole body and I just can't do a thing about it?

I am sitting here now munching on a delicious piece of KFC (which has no soul might I add 😉) and I just don't care. If I was sober now then I wouldn't eat it, but because of the beer I have an unquenchable desire for food.

I know, you may tell me to stop drinking beer, but why do they have to make it so delicious and alcoholic? it just can't be done.

Someone please help me!

OMFG I am the EXACT same way! I can go days on end excercising and keeping calories around a nice 2000 or so and then the second you get 4 beer in me watch the hell out cause I can very comfortable top-out at 5000 calories taken in for the day. Get the beer in me (6 beer is 900 calories right there), then a big ass pizza, then some chocholate later and whatever else and suddenly that's that.

The beer isn't so much the problem as I just always mix beer with food so the second i touch any beer I feast like a horse.

Beer is equal to or greater than the loss of self discipline?

ANYWAY alchohol reduces the bodys ability to break down fat, therefore all the fatty food gets stored.

Skoorb, I'm glad there is someone else who has the same problem as me 🙂

It isn't just the calories in the beer, I have maybe drunk about 1000 calories in beer today, but in the hour that I have been back from the pub I have had three pieces of KFC, large fries and am now on my second double chocolate chip cookie.

It's like whenever I drink beer I seem to double the amount of food I eat in a day.

I think thats how everyone is. I always get very hungry after 3-6 beers.
It's just like getting the "munchies" after someone smokes marijuana.

I truly understand everything you're going through. I really don't have much of a problem losing weight normally. I just keep an eye on what i eat and I can command myself to eat less than I need. It's not that bad....but when I do let free I can eat like you've never seen, and I seem absolutely and utterly unable to control my appetite when I drink. Unless I'm _full_ I will continue to eat and it's always crap. Pizza, cheesecake (I like things of that consistency when drinking), or chocholate or whatever. There is a store nearby so whenever I need some snacks I just run on down and indulge.

If you want to nip your weight in the butt (hehe) you'll just have to cut out the drinking for a while or only do it once a week becaues I know how it can hamper weight control efforts if you're like me and it sounds like you are 😱

Tell you what....Ive got a great deterrant(SP?) to beer drinking living next door to me.

5'8" 500lb red-headed, redneck. I have literally never seen him without a 40oz. of Bud Lite in his fat paws.
Not kidding either. He has to wear suspenders with all of his pants just to keep em up.

One of these days I'm going to take a picture of him with beer in hand, and send it to an anti-beer group.
😀

Yeah, I think I definitely need to cut down on the drinking, it's hard though when everyone around you seem to drink so much (I live in Northern England)

I have manged to cut down a little recently, that's how I lost the 25 lbs. When I was at university I got takeaway pizza every night for a week as well as my three meals on quite a few occasions. 😱

Add me to the list - cause I do love the beer and when I drink the beer I eat crappy junk food as well...

says Uber after burning off 25 pounds over the last six weeks and not having any beer - damn you beer I love you, but yousa makes me sosa fatsa...

Strange, I am the total opposite. I do NOT like to eat when I'm drinking. Sometimes I will, but very rarely. I would rather drink a few beers as a "snack" then pig out on chips or chocolate any day.

hm someone said beer was 250 calories. that would make skorbs 6 beer fest 1500calories alone. thats like a day worth of calories for someone that doesn't workout or have a physical job😛

Yeah except for two problems:

1) A beer has 150 calories
2) I do a lot of working out; I biked 26 miles today 😉

When I drink beer I don't eat food. The trick is to get past that 5th or 6th beer and keep going on to the12th or 14th beer. By the time you get there you don't have any interest in food at all.

I'm 6'2" and weigh 190lbs. I have drunk beer every day for the last 38 years and I don't gain weight. Quit eating the food. Beer is a great diet if you can get past the dry mouth in the morning.

Now that's a lot of empty cans to bring back to the store. 😉 I remember when I was young and drank every day. One day me and my roommate decided to gather up all the empty beer cans and take them back...came up to $65.00!

My wife likes the money she gets from the cans and she can't wait for me to die so she can collect on the life insurance. Everybody winds up being happy.
