PITTSBURGH (AP) - How much would you pay for a bottle of beer that stays cold nearly an hour longer? Pittsburgh Brewing Co., maker of Iron City Beer, is asking an additional $1 per case.

The brewery has partnered with Alcoa Inc. (AA), the world's largest aluminum maker, to produce aluminum bottles that keep beer colder for as much as 50 minutes longer than a glass bottle, Alcoa officials said.

They use aluminum bottles here in Japan quite a bit. They are really cool (no pun intended). I still get a kick out of them when I buy one (typically not alcoholic -- there are so many more soft drinks here that I don't want to go back to the States).

Hm, I thought aluminum conducted heat much better than glass? How would aluminum keep the beer cooler longer?

Also, there's a big alcoa factory around here; a mile long or something ridiculous like that.

That's what I was thinking...
heh, maybe they should super heat the aluminum till it turns into glass, then you have the best of both worlds, except that would probably transfer heat faster than diamonds..

I said the same thing.. It doesen't make any sense. Glass is a much better insulator than aluminum.

Maybe the inner aluminum is packed with air bubbles or something similar? I dunno. Has to be something more to the story.
