If you thought your favorite beer was an import, think again. It may have been brewed in St. Louis…or Latrobe, Pa., or Fort Worth, Texas.

And, if that beer is Beck’s, you might soon be eligible for a refund.

The refund—of as much as $50 for Beck’s drinkers who can produce valid receipts—is part of the settlement of a class-action lawsuit claiming that the beer’s maker, Anheuser-Busch InBev NV, tricked American consumers into believing that the beer was an authentic German pilsner, when it is really brewed in St. Louis.

Even consumers who don’t have receipts may be entitled to as much as a $12 refund. And that’s true even for beer drinkers who have known all along that Beck’s is no longer made in Germany.

The agreement between plaintiffs and the world’s largest brewer won preliminary approval on Tuesday from a federal magistrate in Miami. A final approval hearing is scheduled for October.
No link available on how to get your free beer $$ until the actual approval is signed off on. :(

Lying about beer is about as low as a person can get.

Incidentally, there are some potato salad, toast, and fry manufacturers who are looking at hard times ahead.

Whew, good thing I always save my beer receipts.

Wait .. damn, guess I don't. Still, $12 of free beer is better than $0, even if it's Beck's. Wait, damn, guess I'm wrong twice in this thread.

Yeah. What a joke. Who the hell keeps their receipts for beer?

I understand the need for class-action lawsuits (because who is going to sue individually over a really small damage), but the conditions to be part of the class are ridiculous.

since when do German pilsners have to be brewed in Germany? Unless on the bottle it says brewed in Germany when it is in fact brewed in St Louis, I don't see an issue.

Sapporo is brewed by Sleeman's here in Canada for Canadian market (don't know about states)

Most (including this one) has a smaller amount you can claim for not having receipts. I think it's $12 if you don't have receipts.

Though I'm reading all these articles, yet I can't find a damn link to the class action to make a claim.

Production of Beck’s moved to St. Louis from Germany in 2012, according to the suit against AB InBev. The suit alleged that phrases featured on Beck’s packaging, such as “German Quality” beer and “Originated in Bremen, Germany,” gave consumers a false impression about where the beer was made, in violation of state consumer protection laws.

Intent to deceive

Does anyone actually save their receipts? I can almost guarantee no one has ever said "You know, this shit doesn't taste authentic to me. German Pilsner? - Bullshit! Tastes more like St. Louis to me. I'm going to save my receipts just in case."

There's not a St. Louis, Germany is there? :hmm:
