So I was going through my parent's computer and making sure everything was up to par. Reading the event logs I saw an issue and hopefully fixed that with Microsoft Fixit. Then I decided to do a sfc /scannow just for the hell of it. It said it fixed some issue, but couldn't fix beep.sys. Googleing beep.sys and I see it might be malware. So I scanned the crap out of the computer with Malwarebytes, TDsskiller, etc, etc even in safe mode and I find nothing. But I compared their beep.sys size to my beep.sys size on my laptop and my parent's beep.sys is 6.50KB and mine is only 6.00KB. Also, their beep.sys was added in November of 2015! Very interesting. Mine in 2009. Now I have no idea how this happened since I buttoned down their computer pretty tight. I make them use Sandboxie, Bitdefender Free is installed and Comodo Firewall is installed with HIPS on and all files that are trying to install are denied and the pop up to allow is suppressed. Basically, if they want to install anything they need to call me.
My question is this:
I run Windows 7 Ultimate. My parents run Windows 7 Premium. Can I copy my beep.sys to their computer without any issues?
Beep.sys is in Windows/system32/drivers.
I'm going to run a few live malware CDs and I think I'll install Voodoo Shield on the computer.
Edit- I should mention my laptop is 32 bit and their desktop is 64 bit. Not sure if there would be two different version of beep.sys. I do have a Dell Windows 7 Premium install disk. I wonder if I could grab the file from there if I need to? They have a Dell Optiplex 780.
