I have a dead mobo. Abit SA6R with a 933 boxed intel chip. I have rotated power supplies, ram and removed all cards, save a video. I have also changed out video cards to be sure.

I get a long beep followed by 2 short beeps and a blank screen. The key board lights flash, but thats it. I even removed the Hdd and Cdrom and DVD, all IDE cables. I just want the thing to post.

With that post code, what does it mean? Its an award bios Isuppose. I don't know for sure because I never get to see a screen.

Any help, or RMA?

Swap out CPU?

I know it sounds dumb, but sometimes if you switch around the keyboard and the mouse, the keyboard flashed but it never boots past that.

You can also try searching on google.com or other search engine for beep codes.

The keyboard/mouse connectors are color coded and in correctly. I will try removing the mouse.

I got this from Phoenix (they own Award).

Link

AwardBIOS -- The only AwardBIOS beep code indicates that a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information. This beep code consists of a single long beep followed by two short beeps. Any other beeps are probably a RAM (Random Access Memory) problem.

Thats it. So that must come from bios to intialize basic video. It appears the signal is not there,so this must be a dead mobo. CPU would have a different beep tone, right? I do not have another CPU to put in it to try. I have swapped power supplies again and disabled all power cables except the main board connector. just a video card and keyboard plugged in. No post.

Edit

BTW, Thank you. :)

Try a differnet Video card. The motherboard is not dead, if it was it wouldn't beap at all - same goes for the cpu.

I have traded video cards. To no avail. I haven't tried a pci video card. I'll go check my shop for one. I have a rage Fury maxx in there now.

Are all of the video cards known to work that you tried?

The AGP slot might be dead. If the PCI video doesn't work and if there is a ISA slot and you have and ISA video card try it. But either way, if the apg slot is dead I would RMA.

Woohoo:D

I pulled the ATI rage fury Maxx and put in a generic card eVGA 8 meg AGP and it booted. That is fine. I didn't want the ATI Rage card anyway. It does not have W2K drivers. I need a card for all OS's. I will be running everything from 98 to unix on this box. And playing games and running raid 0.

Fingers crossed.;)
