beep codes: long, pause, long, pause, long,pause, etc.

Piddling around on an Abit KR7A-133, was in a long download.
The 'heat' warning: high-low-high-low played for about 8 seconds then stopped.
Download stopped, mouse wouldn't work, control-alt-delete did nothing.
Forced a re-start, and got the long beep - pause - long - pause - long, etc.
Re-seated memory, switched memory positions, replaced memory. (same long-pause-etc after each configuration try)
Re-seated vidoe card - same thing.

I suspect the XP2000+ is a toast - any thoughts?

yeah i think that means cpu is toast?
or long beeps in endless loop = bad ram i think...

maybe mobo dimms are fubared/

This thing ran nearly perfect for 6 months without problems before the high-low tone.
The download was a 30 minute Office update by dial-up @ 52.3K, and was at 55% when it stopped.

I've gone through 3 sticks of PC2100, and 1 stick of PC2700 in slot 1 and re-seated the Video card
while troubleshooting. Don't think it's RAM - either CPU or Mobo, but the display stayed up but wouldn't refresh.

Since you got the overheat alarm my first guess is the CPU fan is probably failing/failed or the header burned out and it caused an emergency shutdown (that board has COP right?) and since there was a heatsink and thermal compound on the CPU it probably didn't get hot enough to fry. I would try a different fan and clearing the CMOS first, and if that board doesn't require a CPU fan to be detected@ boot plug it in using a molex adapter. Now what Champ said about the DIMM skts being toast could be the case as well as I had a Shuttle board that happened to and it was definitely the DIMM skts and I got the long repeating beep which is the generic award code for ram issues, I've also gotten the long reapeating beep with a bad PSU once to but I think that board had a pheonix bios but I can't remember. Anyways, it's a good place to strat brudda and here's hoping it gets working again

i want to say cpu is fried cuz the high low thing...thats "cpu overheat" warning i believe..

maybe clear cmos and try again?

Your right Champ, and the first place to look when it overheats is the CPU fan Also since he's gettin' the repeating monotone beep (award generic code for ram issues) instead of the repeating high-low beep (award generic code for CPU failure) it's most likely memory or PSU related, but of course there's no way to be certain without eliminating everything one at a time so your guess is as good as mine and I agree the CMOS reset is part of the first step to solving the quandry too, just so long as the CPU fan failure is addressed as a primary culprit as well.

I'm pretty sure it's the CPU, the 'Siren' effect only was for about 8 seconds - then it froze.
Fan still blowing strong, no interupt of RPM signal - restart was the monotone with nothing.
Clear CMOS made no difference, but was worth a try.
Guess I'll replace the Palimino with a T'Bred - same price - $ 79, got to check what the KR7A-133 will accept.

Replaced CPU, cleared CMOS - Posts to 'Memory OK', stops, will not enter BIOS when 'Del' key is pushed.
