How do I get rid of this thing? Any help on this would be wonderfully appreciated.

How about starting with what you've already tried, ie. programs - Adaware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, etc.

This is my cousins gateway pc...2gig, 256mb, winxp home.
I cleaned off 254 virus infected files using avg and about 75 spyware programs using spysweeper and spybot. Both programs act like it did got rid of cws_ns3 successully, but as soon as it is deleted, it comes right back. I have read several things online that talk about editing the registry and deleting several keys, which I have done. I've tried cwsshredder program, which doesn't even detect it at all. I've tried ad-aware. I've tried running the programs in safe mode, with no luck. I even tried using hijackthis, and haven't had success with that. I believe there were a few other small things, but I can't remember the programs.

hmm.

assuming he has all windows updates installed etc. and you still can't seem to get rid of it, you could always just do a clean install. If you installed 75 spyware prgs... hehhehe ... nuke the drive dude! :p that's my honest opinion. drastic virii calls for drastic measures.

I removed 75 spyware things...not programs to get rid of it. I came this far, I want to at least try another valid attempt to get rid of this dumb thing. Anyone else?

it probably won't work if others didn't work, but why not try ms antispyware or bazooka?

you could give counterspy a try
get a free scan here
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/dell/scan.cfm

15 day freebie availble too

it might help

but if your system was that messed up
i would recommend writting zeros to that drive and doing a clean install
less headache and ALL the problems go away

especially if you have done all those things to get rid of the spyware/viruses already
