I'll be going to Fireworks night and it'll be the first baseball game I'm seeing live in almost 10 years - my girl/her bro's 1st ever. I'm reading Shea has a $10 parking fee... but aside from that, where can I park for free in the area ? Are there residential streets close by ? I'm not too excited about the crowds in the regular paid lot since there's a fireworks show... everyone will end up leaving at the same time and it'll be hell. I'd rather walk < 1 mile outside the stadium and leave from there.

LIRR/subway is not an option... we have to hit Brooklyn then back to LI afterward.

7/16: NEW QUESTION: What time do I need to be parked in the lot for a 7:10pm start ? Does it fill up quick ?

There's another parking lot behind the stadium. I think the parking lot under the highway.

I suggest you not to park near the stadium or you'll end up in long lines after the game is over.

I've done that before.

Hmm... not sure which is behind the stadium. I'll be coming toward Shea from the Grand Central... I know there's a loop exit that leads you to the road (Roosevelt Ave) that is under the train tracks...

help me out here pls

I live close to shea stadium, so i just walk there.lol. seriously, if you dont mind taking the subway for only 1 stop you can park by main street and then take the 7. the ride will be like 2 minutes. But parking in main street can be a bitch, you gotta know where to look. pm me if you have any questions

heh I hit main street all the time. Can never find free parking... just municipal lots for like $0.25 for 15 minutes... but sure I'd to know where you can park for free in the area... just for other times.

Find local parking in Flushing around Main Street. There is plenty of parking around and since the 7 train is right there on Roosevelt, you can take the 7 to Shea, take 7 back, and then hit the highway next to Corona Park which is just 5 min from Roosevelt.

Around 7pm on a Friday ? Aren't people already home with their cars by then ? How about 530pm ? Got any street names ? Gotta be close to Roosevelt too so I can hit the subway...

7 pm on a Friday? nobody stays home at that time. you'll have plenty of luck finding parking cause people always go in and out at that time. Just drive around Union or Bowne St. It's only a few blocks away and you might be able to find something there.

LOL, you expect someone to find a parking spot on union or bowne, and then find the subway, and then take it both ways, and walk back?

Although that is about the only place you can expect to reliably find parking. But Id rather pay 10 dollars than put someone through that. You certainly arent going to find parking around the stadium in anywhere but the stadium. Its in the middle of a giant park, a dumpyard, and the smelliest lake youve ever seen.

And BTW, wasnt fireworks night last week?

no it's fireworks night on the 16th.. even says so on the tickets itself.

and it's not the $10 that's the problem... it's having to wait while everyone leaves that parking lot at the same time after the show.

Its something you are just going to have to accept. I guarantee you that as long as the lines to get out are going to be afterwards, its going to be cake and take half the time compared to parking somewhere in flushing and taking the train.

Fair enough. I'll take the "pack of ants" route then. Though I'll find the closest-to-the-exit spot I can. Thx all.

But you have to take into account he probably has no idea where union or bowne even is. Theres no way you can expect someone who doesnt live there to park there, walk 5 or more blocks to the subway, and then do it all again at midnight.

Its possible, but not worth the trouble for someone who is just trying to save a few minutes. Besides, as ridiculous as getting out of the parking lot after a game is, the subway is even more so.

Make sure you eat before you go to Shea.

Shea has the WORST stadium food of anywhere I've been. Absolutely inedible including the Pizza Hut pizza.

I was planning on their waffle fries but that's it. 10 years ago, they were great.

For the record, I do know where Union and Bowne are after a quick glance at Mappoint. I just don't really want to have to worry about whether I will even find a spot or not before gametime... I'll keep those streets in mind for future visits to Main St. though.

Try Sanford or if you don't mind walking, the streets between Northern blvd. and Empire billiards. I always find parking when I'm going to Empire :p
