Hey guys, I'm planning to upgrade one of my rigs with some more ram. I'm wondering if I got this right.

The pc model is Gateway X4200-09, the ram it uses right now are 2 x 2 Gb DDR2 PC2-6400 (6-6-6-18) with a possible of max of 8 gb. I would like to add more ram, but i'm not sure if the added ram I'm going to purchase needs to have similar CAS timings, or should even matter at all?

Any help appreciated !

More than likely, you can use DIMMs with the same timings, or tighter timings. Just make certain that the DIMMs with the slower timings are in the first slots.

Alternatively, you could buy 2 (2x2GB) kits, for a total of four 2GB DIMMs, and mail me the old ones.

When you mean tighter timings, for example: 5-5-5-18 ? or Cas 5

First.... make sure you are running a 64 bit Opp's (Windows) or you may as well leave 4gb alone.
