I need to find a good mobo for a 1.2 t-bird and 256DDR with a 64MB video card. It is not going to be a gaming machine. I need it only for internet and some apps. I can get a LAN card seperate but a intergrated LAN would be nice too. I have tried the k7s5a with this set up but it didn't work. Internet would not work... I have heard that there is a good chance that the MOBO was the problem. I don't need top of the line....

Asus A7N266-VM is a microATX board with onboard GeForce2MX-class video plus an AGP slot for upgrades, and has excellent onboard sound, onboard LAN, two DDR slots and a 3-year warranty. About $70 or so.

However, if your Internet didn't work, I can't see how the motherboard would be the problem. Worst-case scenario, you could plug in a separate LAN card if the one on the board was having a problem, but sometimes you have to jump through some hoops to get your networking set up.

Ya I tried the using another Lan card. Didn't work. I know it shouldn't be a MOBO problem but I did every thing. all new drivers, clean install of windows. Set up network different ways too. I have the computer's network upstairs set up the same way and it works just fine

Who's your internet service provider? Each network adapter has a unique 12-character "fingerprint," which your network equipment uses to help get your data packets where they're going. If you bring two machines onto the network, the cable modem is going to look at computer #2's fingerprint (called a MAC address) and say, "uh, AT&T gave me one IP address for this location, and I already have it on hold for computer #1 with MAC address so-and-so. So computer #2, you're outta luck. Sorry..."

You can find your MAC address in Windows by typing ipconfig /all at a command prompt and looking at the Physical Address.

Well I do use AT&T. All the other PCs on ther network(4PCs) work just fine. Just not the k7s5a. I typed the "ipconfig/all" and it does not work. I have Win98 and I use "winipcfg" that is the same correct?
thanks for the posts!
