Been hearing a bit about firefly...

...is it worth it to grab the dvds to watch them, despite there only being 14? I'm starting to be tempted to do that to fill the scifi void where star trek used to be. Any thoughts?

A few months ago I watched the entire roswell series too, too bad that show got canned.

Been watchin a lot of the big ones this season, Lost being up there, along with 24 (which is meh to me), smallville, enterprise (star trek), familyguy, simpsons, futurama

the movie - I dont know if it will be good or not, but i'll go see it. And i never goto the theaters if that means anything.

The series - IMHO AWESOME! this show has some incredible dialog in it, the one liners etc are great for a laugh, the show is just flat out enjoyable!

The show is really good.

I got introduced to it by word of mouth and found the series very entertaining and the production value fairly high.

Firefly is absolutely fantastic, WATCH IT! Only problem is you will be pissed at the morons that cancelled it. I can't wait to see the movie.

Try Battlestar Galactica 2003 (BTW, keep in mind its a serial format).

The Firefly fanbase was small (according to FOX standards), but they were pretty hardcore. It got canceled, but apparently they decided to make a movie out of it, seeing some potential. I personally think the series are ok, only 14 episodes, but I'll probably be seeing the movie.

I was really pissed at the morons who cancelled Firefly too 🙁 I had completely forgotten about it until I saw this thread. That show was great. So great that I just spent $30 and ordered the dvd off of Amazon (thanks to this thread). I'll be watching the mail every day till it comes now!

The show is AWESOME. Definitely watch it. It has some serious momentum and a killer plot building but damn Fox killed it =/

Firefly for the win! If not, you can "put that stick up your pigu" 😛
(It's hilarious how the cast butchered Mandarin)

Firefly is great. I would definitely buy/rent the DVDs if you haven't watched is already. The Sci-Fi channel is also showing it every Friday at 7PM EST. They are about midway already though.

it was lame. its cowboy bebop without the style. buffy in space.

rent battlestar gallactica instead.. starting with the 3hr miniseries/pilot

Dude, WTF?!? Firefly was not anywhere NEAR as lame as buffy. I personaly was not a joss whedon fan until Firefly. Buffy was too freaking corny, along with Angel which wasn't much better. Firefly was probably one of the more realistic space sci fi endevours that I have seen. But beyond that, NO style?!? How can you say it had no style? What do you consider style?

and firefly wasn't corny? every character is so damn unoriginal and lame. hooker with a heart of gold? really? technology on settled planets somehow reverts to preindustrial revolution level? seriously thats too much. when you settle planets with space travel technology plenty will stick, you don't start from ground zero😛

Actually, she was supposed to be the respectable one of the bunch. In the Firefly universe, Companions are seen as part of the upper class.

The thought here was that the Alliance kept sending settlers out further and further in the galaxy without much. The further you got away from the central planets, the less technology you saw and was available.

Jsut take a look at the reviews on Amazon, that was enough to convince me. One of the best sci-fi (though I guess it's more than sci-fi really) series ever. It would be hot if FOX pulled a Family Guy and continued the series, but that's not likely to happen. Will have to see the movie at least.
