Hi guys, I've got a friend whose Outlook Express wouldn't send/receive email...but I found the culprit..there's a startup program called "beef.exe."
Well, I killed the process and removed the .exe and it fixes the problem after a reboot.....temporarily.
It seems to happen to her each week and I always end up walking her through the problem but I want to get rid of it permanently. I looked for the associations in registry but there was nothing. It's almost as if it's generating it's name "beef.exe" through another program and linking to the master or something. I've tried various antivirus software with the latest updates and it can't find anything. Even did some cleaning with Ad-Aware..nothing.
I've removed whatever was unneeded in the Run, RunOnce and RunOnceEx in the registry as well.
Does anyone know where this beef.exe comes from and have any clues to how I can get rid of it?
BTW, yes, I did reformat etc. and disabled unneeded services.
She's running Windows 2000 Pro and have minimal software installed.
