Johnny Cash's longtime lakeside home, a showcase where he wrote much of his famous music and entertained U.S. presidents, music royalty and visiting fans, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday.

The property was purchased by Barry Gibb, a former member of the Bee Gees, in January 2006. Gibb and his wife, Linda, had said they planned to restore the home on Old Hickory Lake and hoped to write songs there. They had not yet moved in to the home, which they bought for a reported $2.3 million.

The cause is unknown (Suicide!), but Steele said the flames spread quickly because construction workers had recently applied a flammable wood preservative to the exterior of the house. The preservative was also being applied inside the house.

Nice job on thread Title.

Saw this yesterday, a shame about the house.

Flammable and wood does not make a happy house, that's for sure.

I live a mile or so from this house.
Here's our local paper's story.
Sickening. It was always something I always enjoyed seeing from the lake.

Slightly off topic, 1 year ago tornadoes wiped out several homes in our city, and a couple of the local country music personalities performed a benefit show for the victims. Barry Gibb was the 'surprise' guest. :)

You would be amazed how many homes go down like that because of plumbers who can't use a torch properly. All because they don't want to pay for a $15 part to help prevent it.

LOL.

On another note, I have a life preserver I would like to sell you, it is made of steel-reinforced concrete, the strongest around!

A new article

FYI, the house that burned was where most of the video for Hurt (NiN cover) was filmed. It also showed the House of Cash museum, which was nearby on the main highway.

Hey Unheard. I think we PM'd last year.
