Bed Bath and Beyond's lame return policy

Returned something to BB&B earlier. Item was still unopened and tagged, and I had my receipt. I asked for cash back and they said they "don't do that" so instead they ask for my ID and make me sign two different things and still I only get store credit. And not even put on a gift card, they gave me a store credit receipt. Dammit.

I've always hated Bed Bath and Beyond. They way overprice everything and apparently won't give you cash back in any situation.

Did you pay cash for the item you returned?

Just returned something to BBB a few weeks ago, paid in cash and got cash back with receipt. Guess it depends on the store.

Um, my gf just returned something there the other day and they credited back her CC. In fact, their return policy is pretty much standard for retail stores. You will get refunded back how you originally paid (granted that it's new, sealed, with receipt of course) unless it's above a certain amount like $250 or so.

So there must be something else to your story you're not telling us.

I like BB&B but only for certain things, when I really need it, today.
Which almost never happens.

Just use Amazon. Cheaper. Easy returns. More selection.

Is Bed Bath & Beyond's return policy like Costco's? Is there a time limit on returns?

Returns to Our Stores We gladly accept returns or exchanges at any of our store locations nationwide. Please remember to bring the original packing invoice and the credit card used for purchase. Without the original packing invoice and your credit card, you may receive an exchange or merchandise credit. Purchases using a Gift Card will be refunded as a merchandise credit. To find the location nearest you, please click here or call 1-800-GO BEYOND® (1-800-462-3966).

There is also the possibility that the BB&B person just didn't understand the policy, in which case a quick google on a phone could have helped.

They (are) way overprice(d)

I have purchased two sharper image back massagers there and with the 20% coupon - the coupons are mailed out pretty frequently and/or you get one when you sign up to their email list - the price was lower than amazon.com. (At least that is how it used to work.)

However, I assume that for most things amazon.com is better priced. But women like the place and they like shopping and seeing the stuff. ( Though I have only been there 3 times, it seems like number of men/women is similar to the number of women/men at microcenter but even more extreme.)

The one time I was there the young pretty cashier talked me into getting a device to open those evil plastic wrappings on stuff. It actually was a good purchase, though I kind of got it because the woman cast a love spell on me to get me to buy it and I was feeling lonely and it was a long time since a young woman tried to do that to me. HeHe

I'm always coming across 20-25% off coupons, last item I picked up was a Blender for $75 that's $100 even online. Their normal prices range from standard to shitty, but those coupons can make for some killer deals.

I work for Bed Bath and Beyond and have for 2 years old. I work Customer Service and I know much of how that company runs at a store level. We do take outrageous returns, but as a result our customers keep coming back. On average, when a customer comes in with a return they usually spend another 50$ in the store when they come in if not more. We have tons of items and you can always find something that you didn’t even know you needed (something I hear at least 30 times a day when working). We do not have a 30, 60, or even 90 day return policy because we believe in the products we sell and when it comes down to it, we want our customers to feel confident in their purchases with us. Not only do some of our stores take our expired coupons, but we still take our competitor’s coupons. Now, I live in Arizona and I do know that some of our districts have stopped taking our coupons expired and we are testing out some new types of coupons that change in value as they age, but we price match competitors so we’ll always be the lowest price around anyways. As for the returns, much of our items that don’t work correctly or that customers aren’t satisfied with go bad to the manufacturer. When it comes down to it, our customers keep coming back because we take good care of them. They know that if they buy those 20 dollar towels and they fall apart that we’ll stand behind our word and let them try a different brand. Then we’ll go to the manufacturer to help them make the products better for the customer. Our customers love that I greet them at the door and check them out. They remember my name and call me when they need something special. If I can’t find it for them then I tell them where they can find them. It’s all about making customers for life. Customers that can depend on us and trust us not to take them for all they’re worth. We’ll stick around for awhile because our business is smart and trustworthy. We make up for loses in other ways and yet can afford to start out new employees at wages way above minimum wage. Love my job and love my customers.

I suspect it was paid using a CC, and not the OPs CC, and the OP received it as a gift with the receipt, and thinks he can get cash back for the return, when no store allows that.

They'll usually take their coupons even when they are expired too so don't throw them out!

Amazon is more expensive for a lot of things these days. Granted, BB&B usually isn't the cheapest place either. But for the types of things that BB&B sells, Amazon often doesn't have the best price.

The one thing where I definitely lean in favor of Amazon is anything electric. Mainly because so much of it is built like crap and with Amazon you have instant access to hundreds of user reviews that are actually credible. Blenders are a big one, pretty much everything BB&B sells is crap. But for little around-the-house items like towels, bedding, and so on, BB&B may actually have better prices.

I returned a pan that we may or may not have gotten from there from our wedding 2 years ago...
No box, no paperwork, nothing. Went in, said i think this came from here, she looked it up, said yep, we sold that here, it was 125 bucks, go grab something about that much off the shelf and ill exchange it...
Total time spent, 5 minutes.
My wife used to work there, said you can buy sheets, use them until they get all balled up, go in, play dumb and they will give you new ones... Seems like great customer service to me..

Exactly what I was thinking. I tried to return a wedding gift we got two of, and was told the same thing. It is clearly stated in their policies, so I have no problem with that. So I exchanged it for something else.

Doing shit like this is what makes companies tighten up their return policies.

Yeah but this thread is a year old.
Things change.
