Beckham's Debut - What was notable was the horrific broadcasting.

The regular soccer commentary was fine, but there was obviously a producer who felt that 30 seconds was too long to go without an update on whether or not Gloria Beckham had taken off her sunglasses. They had a chance to redemm themselves when Tommy Smyth mentioned Beckham's free kick against Greece in injury time to send them to the 2002 World Cup. They failed to cue this video up.

Pathetic. On of the great free kicks in history and they blew a chance at showing it because they were too busy discussing Beckham's hairstyles and his wfe's sunglasses...

Of course it was terrible. What did you expect? Americans typically hate soccer and they were trying to "appeal" to casual fans by building up Beckham and trying to make people give a damn about Victoria. Really, imo, the real story was how crappy the entire game was. I expected more out of Chelsea and LA. Chelsea was playing pretty conservative, and it was obvious LA was just outclassed.

They played that goal at least 2 or 3 times as far as I can recall. I dunno what you're talking about.

If you don't know who he is, don't bother to learn. You won't hear his name anymore in a month or two. He's a soccer player...in the US now...

I also agree that the Beckham cam was pretty stupid. Also, the only decent announcer is Tommy Smyth. Eric Wynalda needs to just quit broadcasting and go play on his local professional team he just got picked up on. I realize he may have been a decent player (by American standards), but he tends to be very bias and doesn't know that much soccer knowledge.

meh, beckhams past it, he was great once...but hasnt been for a long time IMO. he's not actually really a goal scorer, more of a set up guy so as a player in the LA galaxy team he's probably useless because there wont be anyone who's any good on the recieving end of his crosses.... some of which are pretty inspired i must say.

but for me, beckhams past it. he left manchester united and went to play for madrid where i think eventually he was sidelined quite often because madrid simply had a whole host of better players. he got dropped from the england team by mclaren, which wasnt a mistake as far as talent goes.... ie the whole team sucks, but for some reason the rest of them think they need beckham to play well, so he's be asked to come back n play for england again.

so yeah, he's past it. but then again he's still a better footballer than the rest of the LA team.

but we all know thats not the reason LA purchased his services...... beckam is one of the most marketable men in the world. europe and asia go mad for him, the last big nut to crack is the US, but personally i think the US public just wont care.
